Are you suggesting it is a coincidence? BTW, I agree it is unlikely many Brits would know respond the the brand name "MNF" which only makes this whole thing that much more beguiling to me.
My dastardly plan worked. I knew at least one american on this board would have to comment on the social significance of how Monday night football was originally theres or that there is no way that our football is football because they call it soccer. We invented the game and named it so how can you give it another name even though the rest of the world know the game as football??? Why did you have to give it another name? I cant understand the reasoning so someone please help me out!
Loose Lipped Controller in da Mothafukin Hizzows!!
I knew that was coming... it was only a matter of time. Frankly I agree, I have no idea why they gave it the same name and it actually make very little sense as only a small portion of the game has to do with foot-to-ball contact.
My best guess would be that we probably did it just to piss you guys off, and it appears to have worked. Maybe Sky's using MNF is a return of the favor?
Why is that an ingorant comment? As Americans that is all we relate to when we hear Monday Night Football. I don't think he was putting anything down about soccer.
I was referring to the 'real football' comment. And when you say 'we', remember that a large percentage of this board is not American - so 'we' don't all relate to that.

BTW, the "real" football comment was just a joke to provoke a reaction, which it did

I'm not sure you understand the significance of football in the US
I think I do - I've been in the states over Superbowl weekend 4 times, and been to a few games as well. Come over here and check out how much 'soccer' dominates and rules the airwaves here. The country virtually ground to a halt last week when George Best died. It's similar, if not more significant.
Anyway, two great sports that dominate in their country in their own way. It's just one is a bit greater than the other And back to the point of the thread, Zamora scored a beauty. Must have been a fluke.
Yanks think studying history is watching a John Wayne western ... My appologies to the members on the board this dosn't apply to ( but I bet you know someone it does apply to )
