    AA, 12 Steps, & SP

new South Park is on right now, and it made me realize that the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step program is based on religion.

AA suddenly just lost all credibility in my books. I once thought that it was a credible, objective process to help someone with a problem... now I see that it's nothing but another religious sham.

    thoughts?

The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous

    1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol?that our lives had become unmanageable.

    2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

    3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

    4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

    5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

    6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

    7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

    8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

    9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

    10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

    11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

    12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

but none of the 12 steps past #1 are even related to alcohol! it's just admitting you like alcohol... then becoming religious. that's retarded.

Well the first step to quitting is admitting that you have a problem. I personally am not in AA but I know a couple of people who are. IMO they've only benefitted from it.

It's helped them stop their addicion, they've met some very positive nice people who are willing to do almost anything for them, and gotten them away from a life style that they were going no where in.

If you think it's all a big hoax or scam, I can understand that... it's your opinion. From what I've seen it done to some of my friends, I think it's a great program.

They've told me stories of people who were basically living in their car on the streets with no where to go, with addictions. Now some of these people have found help, cleaned themselves up and some of them are fucking almost millionaires!

Do whatever works for you. If it makes you happier doing so, then that's an added plus!

i'm not saying it harms, and i'm not saying it doesn't effectively help people. i'm just calling it another religious cult that i'll never take any part of.

pretty sure it's a repeat, but it goes great with the topic at hand

lol, I never realised that AA was another cult, but it if the South Park boys say it, its true in my book.

                    I blame the Crab people!

they didn't necessarily say it was a cult... just that it was stupid. and I agree. it's just another dirty religious cult imo. I'm surprised Jim Jones wasn't part of AA
