    NYC - mass transit strike?

effective thursday at midnight there is going to be a strike for the entire mass transit system of new york city. unless negotiations get somewhere before then, but from what i have been seeing the negotiations aren't going well.

a couple of links to some of whats going on....

this looks like a huge mess in the making for everyone involved. they say there was a similar strike in nyc back in the 80's and it worked out after about a week with no real problems. of course that strike was in april and not during freezing weather.

what do you do in cases like this? people will be walking all day just to get to work?
once upon a time, machines were mice, and men were lions. now that its the opposite, it's twice upon a time

OMDL. If that happened. That city would literally stop. And if you listened very closely, you could probably hear it. Take lots of photos. As I have a NYC addiction.

PS, to the NY people. you see that shit about what happened on queens BLVD today??

some of the drivers and mechanics took to the streets again today stopping traffic so someone who had enough of it let off his brake and began rolling through em. someone hit his hood with a bat and he floored it, taking out a few of these assholes. there was a cartman like sense of satisfaction that i felt after seeing it on news 12.

yep, sweeeet. i cant stand these NY unions after 9/11. cept the cops and firemen, they dont get nearly enough pay. a client of mine who is a contractor had sent down a fleet of their trucks for HAZMAT cleanup for 9/11 and the fucking local boys told em to get out. so the foreman said fuck off and they had a huge fight. the mayors office told the locals to give it up and the next day the windows on the trucks were broken. scumbags, all of em

From what I know about NYC FD and PD, they are filled with assholes. Mostly they still think they should be treated like gods because they lost some friends on 9-11. Big shit the whole world lost a lot of friends that day.

Sightless I love that other post about the guy on Queens BLVD. That shit is hilarious. I wish it was on internet news so I could read more about it and laugh my ass off.

But I will give it to the transit workers. They really know how to bring attention to their cause.

Then who drives the buses? I love the assertion that these people are somehow lazy, AFAIK they work pleanty hard and probably don't spend much time posting bullshit on the internet all day while they do it either. Why they are undeserving of anything, simply because they are lowly transit workers? The world needs ditch diggers. And you know what? It's an honest living, a thankless job, and if they feel they deserve a bit more, who are any of us to say they don't?

some days, after long boring office days, i think to myself that I would appreciate a job that involves a lot of manual labor instead of the crap i do sometimes today. something where I can see progress, feel good about myself at the end of the day, and not have to stress over work time and time again. office space-ish, i guess.
