Re: NYC - mass transit strike?

a few updates added in the link below. its been covered from so many angles on the news i don't where to start and the strike hasn't even started yet.

just scroll through the stories and you will get idea of whats going on.

its crazy the amounts of the fines involved, and the new rules set by the city all cars during working hours have to have 4 people in them. all cabs have to be shared and car pooling lots are being set up so people can ride together. and the list goes on.

last night and today the union and the city will continue to meet but it doesn't look good. although the union has changed their demands from an 8%/year raise for three years to 6%/year over three years.

i feel its gonna happen. at least it is at the end of the week. hopefully they can work things out quick enough that the entire next week won't be messed up like this.

As my new apartment is 7 blocks from my job, this shant affect me too much, but it should be interesting to see unfold. We had the order at work that anyone involved on the production side of things (that includes me and my dept) is required to be here regardless, and there is a carpool organization thingy in place...

      fun fun fun.

There was apparently an email sent out that we need to come into work as well-but for fucks sake I don't think I'm gonna walk across the fucking Williamsburg Bridge and then up to 38th and Broadway.............

7 blocks in NYC is quite a walk. And even more in the snow and rain. EEEK.

But hey to live in the great city, I'd do that with a smile on my face. I'm just weird like that.

OK, they are shutting down a lot of the bus lines in queens and brooklyn this afternoon, then they will begin shutting the manhatten lines and move onto the subway lines. the MTA has said they can take the 9% raise or walk away. State law presiding over the union walkout issues stems from the mid 1980's strikes in NYC and now allows the state to fine each member of the union the 25,000 a day they strike until they officialy reseign thier jobs, furthermore, NYS, upon the strike, can now move unto seeking new employees for the trains and buses (thank god), as well as continuing to fine the union heads and the union itself. there is a time limit(i dont know it) where the NYS governer and attorney general can seek federal approval to circumvent the union contracts and privatize the employees. gonna be really shitty to deal with this, and even worse once the violence starts.
