Backpacking through Europe

So has anyone done it? Any pointers? I am considering doing this in June but would like some advice from experienced backpackers.

Just get out there, europe is so damn expensive especially during
the summer, check northern europe, Prague is always a good place
to start. Once there people will more than happy to give you direction.
Bulgaria, Estonia, and Poland all rock, you could always head down
to Croatia and Montenegro. All these places are affordable so have fun.

Id say come to ireland but it doesnt really fit into the whole interailing holiday.. still a good place to come.. u could get a cheapass ryanair flight over to dublin and places in england too..

Check out the usual places like prague, amsterdam, hamburg, paris and parts of spain... also ive always wanted to go to sweden and norway.. they seem interesting and theres so many hot birds there..

did it 96 with my bro. it was fucking amazing. hookers, pot, beer, and lot's of women. i can almost say i fucked all of Europe.

- we worked in a wine yard off the beaten path in Bordeaux, and got free wine and was able to sleep in the barn on hay as long as we picked grapes. good stuff.
- Amsterdam ... i really do not remember much. but some Americana we met up with showed us around and then everything gets really bleak and cloudy. smoked a phaty with an old couple on a bench. best time of my life. fucking loved it.
- Paris. fucking dick heads, but really great culture. great food, drinks, coffee, cakes, meats, cigs, everything is great in Paris. I do not know how they do it. fucking rad city, stay low.
- London. they like fags a lot, and they ask if you have fags a lot. i started to say that i could not fit them in my pocket for the plane ride over here. they would call me a Yank, and ask normally. at first that was strange, and i got use to it. the food ... no comment. i did not have any luck. pubs are sweet locals get ruddy and pick you out like a sore eye.
- Berlin. watching some guy get gutted in a bar right beside me was interesting. it also proved to me that Germans are very serious people. I just stayed back and enjoyed the ethnic food. beer is a huge plus, and meat combos. yum.

there is so much more, but you will have to buy the book.

go to Greece... i cant recommend it highly enough. have never backpacked though, just travelled with family. france, italy, spain, holland, greece, switzerland are the places i have been and i wouldnt not recommend any of them, they were all great in there own ways

I would totally agree with that... the french are jerks but the city is amazing.. it kicks the shit out of other places ive been for culture alone..

I did it back in law school, and it was truly a life changing experience. Make sure you have a rail pass, and you can often find charter flights if you're got to travel a long distance quickly. I sort of went into it without any particular schedule in mind, just some broad ideas about what I wanted to do -- I'd just go to the train station at the end of the day when I was ready to leave somewhere and pick a place I wanted to visit next.

If you're trying to do it on the cheap, an overnight train can double as a hotel room. Prague, Amsterdam and the Greek Isles were highlights for me. Paris is really something to see, but people can be rude and it is very hard to do much of anything cheaply in Paris.
