PERCEPTIONS
Hosted by Dres and David Josephs
Every Second and Fourth Monday of the Month starting at 3pm EST.
First we would like to thank everyone who tuned in last show with Lee Burridge - what a MASSIVE set that was!! There are many to thank for what has been such an amazing season on Perceptions - Steve Porter, The Low End Specialists, Mr.C, Francis Harris, Matthew Dekay, Justin Martin, Demarkus Lewis, Nathan Coles, King Unique, Gavin Froome, Andrew Grant, Peter Anthony, Luciano, Scarlett Etienne, Clive Henry and Lee Burridge. Next season is already shaping up to top this season - especially with our 4th year anniversary show to start the New Year off proper - of course none of this could happen without our loyal fans who tune in every other Monday
We have a sensational mix from 16 bit Lolitas - these former New Yorkers have had tracks out on such labels as Yoshitoshi and Alternative Route, with a unique background and massive success winning several Grammies before becoming engulfed in dance music. This mix is funk filled with a bit of proper filth to make everyone groove - to make matters even better, we will be ending the show with a mix from none other than Sleepy & Boo who as you all know have taken this city by storm with their brilliant Basic NYC parties at Sullivan Room - enjoy!!
16 bit Lolitas bio:
It was in 1955, in a small club in a desolate mountain village in the Jordanian hills, that totally nothing happened that was or is in any way relevant to this biography of the 16 Bit Lolita's. Therefore this whole introduction is actually totally nonsensical and should be ignored. Let's start over again?.
The 16 Bit Lolita's are Ariaan Olieroock & Peter Kriek. Both with a firm background in religious choir music and country they decided in 2003 to try and do something new. After 10 Grammies for their latest album entitled: 'Lord we miss the groove!', they decided to reset their careers and started making dance music.
After moving from New York to Amsterdam , they instantly started working on a new 'dance' sound. In the beginning it was hard to remove all the country elements and that occasional 'Sanctus' that Peter always seemed to want to slip in. It was inevitable that a new way of thinking about music and about music production had to be developed.
But soon they got the hang of it and the quality of their dance music increased dramatically. The first few releases on Deep records and Extrema records featured such well known tracks like: (Lord) Take my life, (put your faith) Put it in (the Lord), Trading places (in the confession booth). It was clear that they had left their religious/country/choir careers and had fully entered the world of dance music !
A string of releases followed on such labels as: Yoshitoshi, Alternative Route (to heaven), Release (yourself to the Lord) records, Sadie records, Plastic Fantastic, Nu Republic (of the Lord), Armada, Minimal records, DK records, LMR, showcasing an increasingly mature dance sound for the young and old!
In the meanwhile, in 2004, Aad & Peter also started bringing their music to clubs, doing a collaboration with Dutch DJ / Producer Stef Vrolijk. Throughout the year 2004 they performed as a live act in conjunction with the DJ-sets of Stef, playing at most of the big festivals and big gigs in Holland throughout the year.
As they enter 2006, the guys continue to tour extensively as DJ's and are currently working on a new live show. The promise of a new double CD original artist album displays the many sides to the 16 Bit Sound. One CD will boast many of their club anthems, while the second will show the guys experimental side. The album is due for release in the opening months of the new year followed by some high profile remixes and studio collaborations.
Seemingly, the world of dance music (just like the world of religious choir music / country before) is at their feet. Watch out for the 16 Bit Lolita's in a club near you! It will be a spiritual experience!
