Progressive going in a new direction?

i've been almost complete removed from the house scene for the last 2 years, probably from living in the detroit. mi area. the recent john digweed kiss 100 mixes, some of the guest mixes as of late, steve lawlers L.O. 3, for example, seem to be taking on this different sound compared to that of 2 years ago before i left. from what i heard, im not really feelin it the way i used to i think. its seems to be a more electric, funky, sort of sound i can put my finger on. anyone know what i mean? i might be wrong, i dont know. just an observation.

yeah man, "progressive" has fused in a lot more elements of electo, funk and breaks over the past few years....just the natural course of business.....there is still good music out there you will like.

Progressive is a rotting caracas of it's former self. Lazy superstar DJ's and the fools who afford them their outrageous booking fees has all but killed this music.

^ I wouldn't go quite that far - sure, the big name dj's are getting some poor reviews of late (i.e. sander k and that whole 'mr roboto' thing) but that just means that the lesser known dj's are getting the chance to showcase their track selection and ability.

I have been pleasantly surprised in the past 6 months by sets I've heard from Luke Morrison, Yvel&Tristan,Olli S, Mirel Jarca and Michael Lanning - there is quality music out there.

Remember, it's all cyclical - remember the days of 1998 prog trance (awesome IMO) which soon became that dark 'Pappa' sound, which morphed into the whole breaks thing, now it's electro etc which I don't care for at all, but soon it will change again.

Progressive is way more than just a 'fad'. I sincerely believe it's here to stay, constantly evolving and getting better and better

Progressive music has been with us for the whole time over the last years and it is still there. As Greg said, you "just" have to get away from DJ's you listened to before and look who is playing what you like best at the moment. There are so many awesome DJ's out who haven't stopped or started playing Progressive..you only have to dig a bit for them instead of listening to the 20th Digweed set where you wonder why he plays so much Electro instead of Progressive.

yea, electro, thats the "new" sound many djs have been spinning...im still into that darker progressive sound, the electro sound doesnt really move me, not yet anyways i usually take a while to get into new sounds. ive actually been getting a little back into the trance a bit, some of it really isnt as cheesy as most might say...sander van doorn, this guy is amazing.

progressive needs to regain its identity as a unique individual genre. prog changed because it had to. the trance dj's noticed progs steadying rise in popularity and started incorporating prog tracks into there mixes. thats why its funny to see some of you guys slam avb, oakenfold and tiesto, when they play prog tracks in thre sets. (sultan, thomas penton, nugen, chris micali, greg benz, etc) the line between trance and prog was to blurred and the whole dark prog phase ended because people were looking for osmething different and fact of the matter is this new "dark prog" is pure crap compared to the satoshi tommie days and lexicon avenue days. nobody hs been able to top those guys in the realm of prog and both satoshi and lex ave have moved onto different sounds.. prog will be good again once it gets a little deeper and stripped down. it needs to go back to having more of a housier feel to seperate itself from trance.

Digweed and Nick Muir have changed the style.......Diggerz stop playing progressive and this year has played a lot of electro....I prefer progressive always....so I hope electro dont invade more place......

No, not at all. His taste isn't mine and mine hasn't to be his. He can "move forward" if you would like to call it like this and I stay where I am without feeling uneducated or less worthy. The only question is, if your favourite DJ changes his record box a lot, will you like it and follow him or not?

thats whats happened with lee burridge imo. I used to love that guys sets but some of his sets from this year seem different to me. I've found that jay tripwire and tyler stadius' proton show is more like my kinda thing nowadays

i do agree that the sound has changed, but the sound is ALWAYS changing. that's what makes the music so great. a full spectrum of progressive music is out there. from the more epic and melodic prog to the funky and fun stuff that is arguably house music anyway. you just have to find what you like and not be against broadening those horizons at anytime. i for one can't wait to see what kind of change 2006 will be bring to our music. i hope to hear more housey stuff that just makes people move as well as some of the dark sound that some people have alluded to in this thread.

as for diggers it seems lately he has been playing a much more diverse selection of tracks on his kiss show, but he really impressed me last year with some very qulity mixes. for me Diggers is still on point, but many djs out there also have pushed prog in many other exciting directions.

progressive rocks. love the new sounds and tastes. this is such a good movement and always has been. taking elements from different genres and splicing them together. good stuff. can not wait for more in 2006.

I have been unhappy with the music for the past 2 years, simply because I don't like the tracks that are being played my favorite DJ's. I think I stopped my bithching about it, and now just hope that the music moves into a sound that I like as much as I loved deep dark house. I know how you feel, and agree with you.
