There's Mackie, and then there's everything else.

if you're wanting to rock, get the SRM450...

if you're wanting the best studio monitors made for the money, get HR824.

otherwise, the other stuff listed is just as average as everything else.

I'd go with the JBL self powered monitors. Same sound as the Mackies but a lot less cost. Plus you can get the new JBL's that have a 12" and a tweet and they are in a compact case. Very nice for those extra gigs you might get.

Uh, no..... cheaper yes but sound wise it's not even close, especially when it comes to the studio reference monitors (HR824). On a different note, nice guest mix yesterday Jeff.... good stuff.

I have the 824's in the studio for production work and have two jbl eon g2 10" speakers with the dj setup in the basement.... I don't do mobile stuff and anything bigger downstairs and I'd be deafer than I already am...

824's will blow jbls out of the water, but those are studio reference monitors and i was just mentioning speakers that you could use to mix, along with take them to a gig where you have to do your own sound. I'd never take $1000.00 monitors anywhere except my home.

Mackies definately have the best sound quality but if your looking to travel with them the JBL powered 10s or 12s are the "standard" monitors that are flexable for several applications and easy to transport and set up anywhere. Just plug and play. And its not like they like shit. For the $ this sounds like the way to go for what u are needing them for. Unless you have the $ to burn and really want uber quality, then there is no other choice then Mackies.
