i think its just that most americans just plain don't understand the game. i have a feeling most people who bash the game couldn't explain the off-sides rule, or answer how many yellows make up a red? couple that with the fact its normally low scoring and most people get extremely exhausted just watching someone run around for that long. do you think the most obese country in the world is going to accellerate at the sport where you have to be perhaps the fittest to participate in?

Perhaps... or it could just be that it's painfully boring compared to hockey, american football, ncaa basketball, lacrosse, rugby, ping pong, curling, bowling, tennis, poker (apparently that's a sport here now...not my quote) jai alai, greyhound racing, putt putt, flip football, jarts, darts, bouncing quarters into shot glasses, toss across, that stupid game tossing bean bags into a small hole cut into big wood boxes, horseshoes, kick the can, paintball, and even FIGURE SKATING.

That being said I do enjoy having a Jameson, a pint of proper and catching a match with my english mate Tony at one of the Irish pubs here in town every once in awhile....

just because soccer is so global dosnt mean its the most exciting. College basketball is the most exciting sport. fact. with boxing comming in at close second.

all sports rule and all sports suck... depending on who you ask, it would just be nice if every time a football (proper) thread was started on here it wouldnt get filled up with thesightless posting how crap it is...

Agree.... I probably come across as a basher but in reality I'd love to see an elite match in Europe... I've been to an MLS game here (Columbus) and, well..... at least I had a flask.

I agree with anonin. College basketball is probably one of the most entertaining sports to watch aside MMA fighting i.e. Pride, UFC, or K-1.

i just think soccer is a lot like minimal techno, at first its hard to understand, but once you learn the nuances of it, you realize how complex and intricate it can be and you possibly gain appreachiation from that.

the game isn't as straight forward as say...basketball. a game that is very simple to follow.

but heres a question for the brits: why in england is cricket so big but i doubt any american on this board can rattle of 5 crickett players names even.

So why even bother coming into this thread to comment? You clearly know the square root of fuck all about the sport, and are not willing to give it a chance. There's a reason it is by FAR the most popular sport in the world, from either a participation or viewing figures point of view.

I said it before, go and watch the Champions League final of last May for a good example why.

I love most sports, US ones included, but footy is the game for me. Off to Germany in June for the big one. Come on Rooney!
