Re: Soccer the most exciting sport - FACT!
European Football is the game that the entire world loves. The World Cup and European Championships are the highest watched games up there with the Olympics.
I love the egalitarian nature of soccer. That a poor African country might upset a European powerhouse on any given day is a real occurrence. Why? Because you need no special equipment and it is the cheapest sport. People play in the streets of Rio and are able to compete with individuals who attended the best academies of Europe.
In response to those who say it is boring, I say to each his own, but consider this. Soccer is the ultimate endurance test. David Beckham once had a monitor strapped to him by addidas, and they found that he ran an average of 12 to 14 km per game. I know some pitchers in baseball or some NFL linemen who can't even walk that in ten years!
Other than fitness, soccer is the ultimate strategic chessgame. Sure goal percentage is low compared to basketball, but rather than scoring every trip, you see the genuine setup and counter-movement of what amounts to a living chess-board. If you view it in this sense it is very interesting and all the more special when there is a breakthrough and they score. A build up with great pay off and emotional release like this: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAA AAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
