pc trouble

so, evrything is working fine for hours and then all of a sudden my computers shuts down. like there would be a power cut.
and i can't turn it back on unless i take out the powercable and put it back in.
is my power supply busted or is it something else?
i've tried changing power socket so that's not it.

might be the power supply, might be the fan causing the machine to overheat and shut down... do you get any messages or does it just turn off?

power supply.... don't worry, they're cheap and easy to install.

Please post Computer related questions in our other message board www.mercuryengine.com Picklemonkey does a great job there and you will get good answer times as well either from him or somebody else. if you've added or upgraded components to the system fairly recently, then either your power supply isn't enough to handle it all in the end, or you need additional fan(s) to cool things better. The shutdown is likely caused by internal temperatures reaching their peak triggering the kill to avoid overheating.

tnx for the replies guys, i forgot about [ME] i will ask other questions there .
i too think it's a heating problem tho, i opened it up and cleaned the fan and the metal stuff behind it it was really really dirty, i hoped that would do the trick but it didn't
i will look into another power supply. altho i haven't installed anything new except a usb wireless network thingy, but i doubt that's the problem tho.
my power supply is 350W, i have a amd athlon xp 1800+, 512mb ram, gforce2, 2 drives (40g and 80gig) and creative audigy soundcard.
is there a way to check to heat of the pc? i believe sisandra (or what's it called) can do that. maybe xp has something internal that does the same?

Most motherboard manufactors provide you with a tool to scan the temperature of your fans. Asus delievers the Asus Probe tool for example which is good enough to find out if it´s a Temperature problem.
