1.23.06: Slacker
As a DJ and producer Shem McCauley AKA Slacker continues to be on the cutting edge, with a reach far beyond most of his contemporaries, a history spanning numerous musical genres and a diverse checklist of fans throughout the business.
A DJ for over 16 years, the words "been there, done that!" spring to mind. Originally known as DJ Streets Ahead, Shem was one of the pioneers of the UK Hip Hop scratch scene, playing alongside the likes of Tim Westwood and picking up production and remix credits beside James Brown, Roxanne Shante and Public Enemy. As a student in Brighton, England, he established various sound systems DJing alongside fellow South Coast boys Norman Cook and Carl Cox. More about Slacker at: http://imprintdjs.com
Feb is the start of our new series following our very succesful Live at DC-10 series titled Live at Stealth Pres. "Product" hosted by Perceptions, first guest is:
Nic Fanciulli -
Nic Fanciulli is a young (he?s 24) and fresh DJ, producer and remixer - currently the hottest rising house talent in the UK.
Nic started in music at 16, working in a record shop and DJing in local bars in his hometown of Maidstone, Kent. His first proper break came five years ago after slipping unmarked mix tapes to Maidstone?s Club Class promoter. After the 3rd tape and a 6-week hunt by the promoter Nic was given a weekly main room residency. More about Nic at: www.nicfanciulli.com
Cass
It's easy to blurt out vague declarations about a DJ's talents, but Englishman Cass puts his music where his mouth is. He's quickly making strides to the short list of world class DJs, booked solid around the globe from Australia to Buenos Aires and throughout Europe. He's developing something of a special relationship with the USA, which started with DJ spots at Twilo in New York and now regularly taking in most major metropolitan cities, whether it's Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Washington DC, Boston, Atlanta, Austin, or Denver. More about Cass at: http://www.sabotagesystems.com/artist.asp
DJ Hal
There really should be a rule that says that all DJs must love dancing themselves. For DJ Hal it is his joy to make people have a great time, watch them dance deliriously through the night, indulge them in his deep love of music, inspire and elate, and generally get down and boogie with his new found friends.
From the top class Tyrant @ The Bomb to the legendary Back 2 Basics, both with their highly knowledgeable and appreciative crowds, DJ Hal can be found expanding people's tastes on a regular basis. More about Hal at: www.djhal.co.uk
And many, many more to come with our new series, an ole skool acid mix from Onionz, Kos from Space Ibiza and I could keep going on - tune in!
