i find the CDJ's easy as pie. the loop features only take about 10 minutes to learn. and cue'ing and beatmatching is do-able by a 5 year old.
vinyl is the top for me though. turntables vary a ton. but once you get a feel on thier stylus movement, cueing is a bit easier. the pitch bends on tables are a bit rough though, they arent nearly as exact as with cdj's but easy to work with nonetheless. in regards to needles, i dunno, im old school there, i like the true blue ones. not felt tip as i find they skip a bit too mcuh, the traditional needle tips seem to give me a better grip.
it really boils down to each persons ideas. the one thing musically is that vinyl does give a better 3-d sound IMHO. cdj's are clear, but there is something sonically about vinyl that nothing else captures.

Join My Chant. new mix. april 09. dirty fuck house.
download that. deep shit listed there
it's easier to mix vinyl after working with CD's, then to mix CD's after working with vinyl...the learning curve is more smoother...

Only reason i'm selling my decks is the cost vinyl here as well...i love how you can 'read' the vinyl and even mix with records you're not heard before, and the manipulating with your hands. It's all in the touch when it comes to good beatmatching throughout the mix.
That said, i'm still selling them, taking a break in mixing this year and hoping to get enough money by september to make the switch to CDJ's by then....
i'd like to know that as well ..is it really harder to spin on turns or cdjs ??
i learned on turntables, so i find it easier to mix on them. i've sorta given up spinning, just havent had the time or inclination. need to buy a pair of cdjs and get back into it.
Well, I've had my Techniques for quite some time now. A bunch of records and I still purchase every month.
I would think mixing with cdj's would be more difficult, at least for me.
I love it how you can see the music / track with the vinyl. You can see the grooves and estimate about how much time you got left on the vinyl.
With mp3's, all you have are numbers for the time of the track. How does that work for you all. Does the time of the track go backwards; forwards, etc.
very well said.. never will give up on vinyl but i have converted to the cdj's but it doesn't feel as smooth as mixing a peice of vinyl takes getting use to as all equipment.. the transitions is the key..
miss the vinyl, still try to grab a few here and there. but cd's are my way as of now.. this said NEVER SELL THE TABLES.!! something that has been around for years and lets you know where it all started..

Jesus Christ!, I was just going over this thread to see more responses on the topic and noticed my rep power skyrocketed by 100 wtf? This must be a mistake surely
spinning on tables and cdj's are one in the same. If you can spin on one, you can spin on the other. It's just like driving another vehicle other than your own. Takes a few moments to get a hang of the functionality and minor differences and then you're good to go.
