ALiVE is the CD of the year (only Way Out West might top this for me). Incredible programming, track selection, mixing, and (of course!) scratching! Also loved the sleeve notes...
On the downside, Zabiela does depress me. I was thinking of getting the Pioneer CDJ-1000's, but after listening to ALiVE - what's the point?! I'll never even come close to JZ.
I'm not that impressed with Alive, actually. Mixing and experimentation is great, but most of the tracks don't blow me away. I was hoping for more.
Nothing compares to his "4" mix. That's way better than Alive.

Practice makes perfect. You'll never be as good as Zabiela if you don't practice. And his daddy taught him almost everything he knows, so what's the fun in that?
Darin.... For the 'record' my Dad could never mix... he only owned one turntable but just really liked techno and has about three thousand records.
...so I didn't learn from him... A local DJ called Gary Bennetton showed me what mixing 2 records was all about so I practised in the record shop I worked in... much to the annoyance of the customers and the shop owner.
Very much enjoyed both discs but must say I prefer disc 1 over 2...anyhow...Have seen JZ a couple of times in L.A. ...really great show. keep up the good work.
Overall it is pretty good. I like disc one more than disc 2. Disc 2 seems to not go any. The mixing is good but the trakc selection is dull. Disc one overall is great. Good breaks with some dark elements thrown in there for good taste.
Got a chance to listen to disk 1 today. At the beginning I didn't really like it but as the cd progressed and the sounds became 'fuller' I really started to enjoy it. Great build. Now to find time for disk 2.
