    Capote

I went to the avant premiere of Kapote in Belgium, comes out in three months here...
I don't know if this movie is released yet in the States but I think so:

Plot Outline: Truman Capote (Hoffman), during his research for his book In Cold Blood, an account of the murder of a Kansas family, the writer develops a close relationship with Perry Smith, one of the killers.

I simply did not like this movie...maybe because it's just not a story that is suitable to watch on screen. Ok the story about a gay writer that falls in love with a killer is somewhat controversial maybe, but so what, that doesn't make a good movie.

The acting is good, film is made by talented people no doubt about that, but in my opinion, it's a story that should be read in a book and not something you watch on television or at the movies...

Has anyone seen this movie yet, and if so, what did you think of it?

    Re: Kapote

It was one of the best films of the year and you missed the point of the film.

It's not the fact that he develops an unusual realationship with the killer, nor is it about the researching of Truman Capote's best work "In Cold Blood" that this film is about. The film is a character study of trying to understand what drove Capote in his work, and how he was at odds with himself (believing himself to be a fraud most of the time, yet basking in the fame that was heaped on him for his work), and how that book destroyed Capote afterwards, partly because of the implied guilt that he felt from exploiting the people that he used for research, and how he profited from their deaths. It's a very mature, complicated film that doesn't give in to cheap sentimentalism and is a stunning debut film for the director.

What did you want or expect? Car chases, gunfights and explosions?

Sorry to say but no .
It was a premiere that followed after a movie quiz final and I didn't know in advance what kind of a movie they would show us. My girlfriend liked the movie more than I did. I just didn't like it, people have different opinions that's all.

Exactly, one of the better films from last year.

See 'Owning Mahoney (2003)' if anyone's interested in another fine performance from Hoffman.

Just saw this movie this weekend.... WOW.

I really fucking loved it, and it was amazingly intense as to how much of a shit this guy was and yet you could sympathize with him at the same time as being disgusted with him.

The same kinda goes for the Perry guy too, you can identify with him until that final second before he becomes a monster, and yet he doesnt seem to stay that monster for even a moment after the crimes....

                  oye.

                          Re: Capote

Long, tedious, and dreary. Had to finish it in two seatings, only because it was suppose to be such a good film. I saw Infamous later, and enjoyed it much more.

I don't know anything about Capote but I find the depiction of his character in Infamous and the settings a lot more convicing.

(I thought I commented that the film was self-wanking crap but that was actually for Cache. This is almost close )
