mixing with cue or one ear..

so when you guys are matching beats, do you listen to the two tracks playing together in your headphones, or do you just use one ear to listen to the track in cue and the other ear to listen to the track playing.......

When I first started out I would do the 2 track thing. Now I just need one ear.

One ear to beatmatch and headphones to EQ.

I was the opposite, when I first started, the Ear. I mostly use the cue and headphones on. well, I switch really. so both.

not at all man, you just gotta listen very carefully and feel out the elements in the tunes and use good judgement + skills.

It depends on if I am playing quietly in my bedroom or in a club. In my bedroom I usually have both earmuffs on my head, using the master and the cue channels in my headphones. Having a 600 makes that really easy. I don't know about other mixers.

Live I mostly just use the one ear to listen to the soundsystem and one for cueing. But I do tend to use both channels of what is going to be going out of the system when I get ready to mix to make sure they will be in time with each other.

typically one ear, may switch between cued and live track to listen up, sometimes will have them both playing together in the headphone...really depends on what system and where you're at...mixers like a Rane 1024 doesn't offer split cue in the headphone so you're forced to use one ear when bringing up the volume...I liked that actually as it forced me to listen harder to match up correctly...

I use one ear on the HP's...prefer that way of mixing unless the booth monitor really sux balls.

The best way. I use one here to listen to the track but instinct is the best. Mix what you want to sound like. Try to imagine the sound your going for and then do it.
