DJ ROOSTER & SAMMY PERALTA
There is a new sound being carried to dance music on the winds of Funky/Dark/Electro Tribal music. Its roots go back to the advent of the first monophonic synthesizer and second generation drum machines. This new sound is quickly gaining acceptance both at home in their native USA and abroad. The sound we are speaking of is that of the partnership of DJ Rooster & Sammy Peralta.
Rumor has It that Rooster has been DJ(ing) from the moment he was hatched. When asked what made him become a DJ, he sincerely responded ?I believe I was born with music in my blood. The turntable became my instrument. It became my way of playing music like a musician. The next logical step was producing. Not only did I want to express myself through other music, but also through my own?.
When asked to describe his sound, Rooster bluntly says, ?My music is hard like the streets I grew up in?.
The Rooster?s notoriety as a DJ began at various New York City clubs. He programmed in Sound Factory, Red Zone, Mars, Danceteria, The Ritz, Arena, Octagon, Deco?s and numerous others. He has a great following and is a crowd pleaser.
In Addition, The Rooster has co-headlined with some of the great DJ/Producers of our time such as Todd Terry, Kenny ?Dope? Gonzalez, ?Little? Louie Vega, Robbie Rivera,
Roger S., Antoine Clamaran, Benny Bennassi, etc...
Sammy Peralta loves music. That pure and simple fact comes through strikingly clear as he sits at his keyboard tinkering with half-written tunes stored in the rack-mounted computerized studio he?s diligently put together in his spacious New York City apartment. Peralta?s music, much like his personality, exudes good-spirited warmth and energy. ?I have to be careful,? he laughs, ?because I can get so lost in the music sometimes.?
The twenty-nine year old multi-talented instrumentalist ? Peralta?s right at home on keyboards, piano, soprano & alto sax, and percussion- has allowed him to translate his musical thought directly from brain to hands with crystal clear accuracy. Quite evident from the collection of eclectic projects and artists he has worked on and with.
Sammy Peralta, a native of New York, began developing his broad musical range when, as an elementary school student, attended a classical music concert. ?I knew right then that I wanted to be a musician,? he now says. At that point, young Sammy was not focused on any particular musical style. He had discovered the language of music and knew simply, that it was one he had to learn to speak. ?There was something about hearing the music live that touched my soul. That probably sounds corny, but it?s the truth.? Sammy was so awe-struck by the emotional depths music could tap into that as early as junior high school he became an ?outsider? when he opted for carrying his saxophone to school everyday instead of a football or basketball.
Influenced by such greats as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Chick Corea, George Duke, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Kenny Kirkland, Antoine Roney, Geri Allen, David Grusin, Herbie Hancock, George Howard and, of course, Grover Washington Jr., Sammy Peralta wants to always have to strive to achieve their phenomenal level of musicianship.
Now a sought out producer, writer, remixer and touring musician in his own right, he has chosen to team up with DJ Rooster in an effort to develop a new sound.
LOW END SPECIALISTS
Low End Specialists:
Mac C and Ali Geramian are the Low End Specialists. They've come a long way in a blindingly short time by doing things right the first time around. From their very first official remix - of DJ Vibe & Rui Da Silva's classic 'So Get Up - to recent work for the likes of Bedrock and Yoshitoshi, Mac C and Ali have delivered tough 21st century tribal house, infused with a progressive international flavor, but powered by a distinctly New York energy and class.
"One of my favorite artists/producers with an edge. These guys will just keep on pushing.... they have covered club land with enthusiasm others need to learn from!" Omid 16B
Before the L.E.S, Mac was already one of NY's well-known DJ's, a Sound Factory resident and regular guest of Danny Tenaglia at his legendary Be Yourself night at Vinyl/Arc. Ali was an up and coming producer and DJ, but it wasn't until the pair met through mutual friends four years ago that the seed for the Low End Specialists was planted. Not long after that first meeting, the pair turned out some tracks for themselves, something to help them stand out in the competitive NY house scene. But it was a telling factor that some of the first people to support their tracks just happened to be guys like Danny Tenaglia & Omid "16B" Nourizadeh.
"Mac and Ali are seasoned vets ready to get large - two to watch."
John Creamer & Stephane K
With their remix of the Underground Sound Of Lisbon's classic 'So Get Up' (Kaos) came the breakthrough that many producers hope for. The track received support from Satoshi Tomiie, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler and was featured by John Digweed on his KissFM radio show. They've since remixed the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Steve Lawler & Mistress Barbara including a remix of Fierce Ruling Diva's 'You Gotta Believe' (React), which was rinsed out by the entire A-list of tribal progressive house and eventually found its way on to Satoshi Tomiie's NuBreed/Global Underground. Mac and Ali's original productions have been just as well received, with Deep Dish charting 'Smoked Piece' (Hydrogen Records) at #4 and getting featured by John Digweed & Sasha on their 2002 Winter Music Conference Essential Mix. Deep Dish & John Digweed have since requested the duo's unique sound for several remixes on their respective labels (Yoshitoshi & Bedrock).
"Mac C and Ali Geramian are part of a new breed of producers emerging from the long-stagnant NY scene, poised for great success and recognition in the coming year, with a slew of original material and remixes-many of which we have been fortunate enough to have played to enthusiastic audiences..." Ali Shirazinia (Deep Dish)
We're already halfway into 2002 and LES are in the throes of inking an album deal, touring the world relentlessly, and the remix offers now outweigh the free hours in a day. They now hold down a weekly residency at Centro Fly, a club that has established itself in the forefront of bringing quality music to NYC. The move from prodigies to peers of their heroes has been lightning fast, and the buzz surrounding them grows ever louder. It's the kind of buzz that ends up selling large numbers of records. But you don't so much hear word of it; you feel it - 'cause it's a Low Frequency thing, of course.
