I would go the cdr route, and have been saving up for them for years, but with the recent advances in technology, I almost feel like they are becoming obsolete for me (especially considering their large price)..

To get a song I have onto cdr, I have it on my computer first, then burn it to cd. But now I don't have to do that, just use it right off of my computer. I agree that the final scratch sounds very cool, and I may end up buying that final scratch vinyl. Although I have been exploring a free version of that method, using time coded vinyls that are decoded on the PC. It seems there are a *ton* of options for which dj software to use. They all look similar, and most have different interfaces with the vinyl/cdj world. You can even use timecoded cd's if you like.

Still, the Xone3d looks cool and I would love to play around with one of those. Having that with two turntables, and some sort of computer in the back is now seeming like quite a sweet setup. And when space is limited in my small bedroom, just the mixer with the computer sounds great too.

I'm only gonna be using ableton to bridge the gap in time between vinyl and CDJ's. The acquisition of the last ones has been delayed until at least september, possibly later, but i want to sell my decks along the way since i'm not buying any vinyl anymore now. Total computer mixing isn't my thing though, i want to use my hands while mixing, it's just the way I like it. I'll miss reading my records on sight, it made me capable of mxing in records i hadn't heard or seen before! I love manipulating the vinyl with that nochalant gesture while mixing.

I hate having to switch. All with you Jeff....

What you're missing out on is this: I would hazard a guess that close to 90%+ of all production never makes it to vinyl... I have disc after disc of stuff that has never even seen the light of day much less been on beatport, resonant vibes, etc as well. Unfortunately soulseek has taken alot of the "unreleased" stuff and made it available to the masses. But a lot of producers and DJ's have really cracked down on sharing stuff because if you do and that particular producer finds out you'll never get another promo again... Do I love vinyl? Absolutely. But I'd rather get a promo cdr for free or spend $2.00 bucks on a digital track rather than wait for it to come out on vinyl (if it does) and plunk down the $13 for the 12" plus shipping... Now excuse me while I go back to listening to my just received Peter McCowan promo cdr....

Yeah, I've defenitely thought about that too, and I think it's probably one of the best benefits there is to dj'ing this way. And it's one of the main reasons I've told a buddy of mine to get cdj's, as he's contimplating it.

2nd best would be price of tracks

3rd would probably be the weight and or mobility.

cdj are the way to go. I just can't see myself just mixing on a computer. Albeton is cool but I prefer to be mixing cds instead.

One thing I don't understand, some people seem to have the opinion that cdj's are the way to go but they could 'never dj on a computer.' Really, what is the difference? I'm not sure. It's definitely cheaper to use the computer, both are simply playing digitally stored audio files. But the cdj's are expensive as hell and the computer option seems so much cheaper...
