ok so I finally have gone to digital djing

at long last I have converted. I will be transferring all my vinyl to pc as FLAC or .ogg... using ableton or traktor, and getting a xone3d if I am lucky.

I never thought I would, but I am.

There are a ton of sites to buy music downloads, and records are too expensive and heavy.

    I am finally convinced....

    Never thought I would be

If you still want to feel like you're djing, with the added benifits of editing and looping, use final scratch with traktor. Digital vinyl.

Final Scratch is wicked, Albeton unbelievable and Traktor 3 amazing. Although I still use 80% vinyl in my sets I find myself leaning more towards digital as a tool for enhancement

          Enjoy!!

...It's not as if you're coming to grips as an alcoholic or crack addict here ..... nothing to be ashamed of. I've been using primarily digital (cdr) for years now. Personally I won't do the laptop thing but I'm not going to knock someone for trying to deliver edm to the masses... Cheers.

I would go the cdr route, and have been saving up for them for years, but with the recent advances in technology, I almost feel like they are becoming obsolete for me (especially considering their large price)..

To get a song I have onto cdr, I have it on my computer first, then burn it to cd. But now I don't have to do that, just use it right off of my computer. I agree that the final scratch sounds very cool, and I may end up buying that final scratch vinyl. Although I have been exploring a free version of that method, using time coded vinyls that are decoded on the PC. It seems there are a *ton* of options for which dj software to use. They all look similar, and most have different interfaces with the vinyl/cdj world. You can even use timecoded cd's if you like.

Still, the Xone3d looks cool and I would love to play around with one of those. Having that with two turntables, and some sort of computer in the back is now seeming like quite a sweet setup. And when space is limited in my small bedroom, just the mixer with the computer sounds great too.

I love vinyl! Have not used digital decks yet. Have no clue how to laptop nor have I seen it...... hmmmm so I have no knowledge to say that any of these are better then the other. Don't you now feel stupider for reading this comment!

                    Vinyl is awesome, IMO!

LOL, Maybe if I actually did gigs and made money off of this hobby, I might be inclined to convert or start using digital equipment and mp3's.

but nahhhh, Vinyl junkie for life brotha! I am actually thinking of buing just 1 cdj, to incorporate onto my mixing combination with my tables. But that probalby as far as I'll go.

but that's exactly why I'm going digital. For me I have no gigs, and this is just a hobby, so I might as well make it cheap and not shell out 10 or 11 dollars for a record that takes up too much space in my small place. Maybe if I lived somewhere else I would buy more vinyl, actually, I definitely would if I lived somewhere cheaper and bigger, I would for sure.

                            yeah, good point there,

maybe the cost of the vinyl vs the cost of all the new equipment cancel each other out... so it goes both ways..?

                            bahh

What you're missing out on is this: I would hazard a guess that close to 90%+ of all production never makes it to vinyl... I have disc after disc of stuff that has never even seen the light of day much less been on beatport, resonant vibes, etc as well. Unfortunately soulseek has taken alot of the "unreleased" stuff and made it available to the masses. But a lot of producers and DJ's have really cracked down on sharing stuff because if you do and that particular producer finds out you'll never get another promo again... Do I love vinyl? Absolutely. But I'd rather get a promo cdr for free or spend $2.00 bucks on a digital track rather than wait for it to come out on vinyl (if it does) and plunk down the $13 for the 12" plus shipping... Now excuse me while I go back to listening to my just received Peter McCowan promo cdr....
