OK, flip the mirror onto the recent groups.

      1. every time some muslim says bad things about jews, im going to an middle eastern store and setting it on fire, then going to the embassies and breaking windows. this will also apply to suicide bombings, roadside bombings, and kidnappings. ill stop there. should give me enough reason for a few years if i carry over.
      2. we find murder, anti gay and anti christian and anti jewish things offensive, BUT IT DOESNT STOP HALF THE MIDDLE EASTERN LEADERSHIP FROM SAYING IT AND CALLING FOR THE DOWNFALL OF ALL NON ISLAMIC NATIONS DUMMY.
      3. ""makes you look like an asshole"" - well ill be one of the 5 or so around here, what about the 3 million who have prostested, fought, burned flags, buildings or cars,
      4. learning to respect others ways, liked this one coming from a defender of these people. wow, umm...... tell me, whats the punishment for being a homo again?> whats the punishment for a woman having birth out of wedlock? what happens if a non muslim comes withing 50 miles of mecca? what is the punishment for laughing at mohammed DEATH. DEATH DEATH. oh yeah. well done on repsecting other people's choices. MURDER carries less of a sentence in iran, iraq, saudi arabia, jordan, syria and pakistan than the aforementioned crimes.

        ding ding ding.

the whole idea of freedom is standing up for the right of someone to say something, even if what they say offends you to the core. its either that, or some form of a police state or dictatorship. personally, i choose free speech over that any day.

ohh, and you live in canada there neotron. we have freedom of speech here. you dont like it, MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

@ all those who think this is "just a cartoon" and it's all ok because of the freedom of speech: it's a simple basic rule of our system that your personal freedom stops where the freedom of the other begins.

Apart from that, freedom of "speech" isn't the same as freedom of "insulting."

Show a little respect and decency instead of having the arrogance to think that everybody automatically shares your perpective.

And oh, if it's ok to post insulting lame cartoons, nobody will mind me posting the following here:

Whilst you make some valid points, I'm still waiting for someone to tell me why an image of an olive skined man with a beard is offensive? And also why its not offensive when published in an Egyptian paper, but is four months after being published in a Danish one?

That isn't offensive. Depicting all muslims as terrorists, rapists and child molestors is offensive. That's the big difference...

Ohhh man does this need some work... LOL.

                1. Well see, again that puts you at the same level of that small percentage that went too far with it. And like them you would be classified as a moron. Yet if you protested it like the others o peacefully, but angrily, then that's fine.

                2.
"we find murder, anti gay and anti christian and anti jewish things offensive."
wow, well go and tell the bible belt people that, the KKK and the extreme right winged, neo fascists and neo-nazi's in europe that. They are anti gay, anti jewish, anti black, anti anything that's not white basically and if given the chance would love to see their downfall (let's hope they won't). So what's your point?

                3. Yes it does make you look like an asshole, since there is little respect for other people's beliefs, just like those extremists do...same theme hmm?

                4.
whats the punishment for being a homo again?> whats the punishment for a woman having birth out of wedlock?"
Sounds like many other places outside of the Middle East have that punishment...So I don't know about the world being out of the "dark ages". Despite all that technology and "advancement" we have, it means fuck all, relatively speaking we're basically at square one.
Like I said...(I don't know how many times) what may seem like a harmless joke to you, may be really serious to them. And like KinkyJ said:

Learn your boundaries, go out read a book, meet some new people of different cultures, if you can go to another country and see the world a bit, and get some understanding of other people's cultures, and that there is not ONE single culture (i.e. yours).

It's not the picture of the man itself, it's what was written right next to him, in relation to how he was depicted...

Neotron, warning: stop throwing around terms like asshole and moron please, I don't see why that is necessary since they are words to be taken personal. Make your point without name-calling please. Okay?

@ KinkyJ: Last time I looked in my country Muslims are still a minority, about 15 to 1. And if you had taken the trouble to read into my other posts on this subject a bit, you'd have known that I do understand the offense that was taken by the Muslims, but not their reaction. It's fucking hypocritical to the max man, if we should accept that it is in other countries official policy to insult and harrass non-Muslims, then they sure need to keep their mouths shut when we return the favour... and this was mildly done so in comparison, if I may say so. Because what happened here doesn't even come close to what they say/do about/to non-Muslims in some parts of the Middle East.

I agree with the editor of Jyllands Posten: it was time to wake the European people up, make them realize what is happening. They were succumbing to the pressure of Islamic interest groups, and the agressive way in which they have been trying to impose their views on our society, like carrying that damn niqaab when working in public places or schools and such.

This whole thing has made one thing pretty damn clear to me: there are 3 groups of Muslims in Europe, maybe more:

1: those that simply agressively want to install Shari'a rule here
2: those that want to do the same, but try to reach the same point slowly and through infiltration of our society
3: those that don't give a damn and/or have adapted to our standards (thank god still the majority among European Muslims)

As for reading a book: go read one yourself. My specialization is Africa's politics and development, though I do try to read into as much global topics as possible. I may be leftist in politics, but i'm not blind, and if there's one thing anthropology studies has taught me, it is this:

my respect stops where that of the other stops. It's a 2 way situation, not a one-way lane. This means to me that I have the right to defend my norms and values, and can ask for respect for them from foreigners just as much as I am supposed to respect theirs.
Some Europeans should be reminded of the fact that at some point respect for otherone's culture slowly gives way for the acceptance of it. And I myself do not intend to let it come that far.

keep your eyes open, enjoy the cultural diversity of this planet, but don't lose your own moral basis out of sight. That's all.

Oh, and you live in Belgium, not Belgicum.

Re: Breaking News - The latest Photographic outrage

                        1. but thats why we dont do things like that, simply put we dont, nor back the people who do. nowadays it amounts to a group klansmen in the US and neo nazi's in europe who amount to less than 50,000 in total. and every time they perform a violent act they are jailed under hate crime laws for a long time, not simply dispearsed. and stop name calling or you're getting booted.
                        2. the people you mention in this one have been apologized for over and over again, have had laws against thier violent ways enforced, but still we respect that they have the right to say it, and furthermore, most of the time, people gather just to tune these people out. at US soldiers funerals, there is a reverend who protests becuase the ARMY lets gays in, so a group of bikers, and a large one, follows him around, and blocks the families from his view, supporting the grieving people.\
                        3. like i said, call names again, and your IP wont find this site anymore. i stated something to show the same exact same thing you said, just in a different view, go back and re read it.
                        4. we set our own boundries, not an imam, if i want to say fuck allah, jesus, budda and whatever other major dieties exist then draw pictures of them shitting on each other i can. you speak of other countries and other cultures. these cartoons were drawn and published in one country, but yet, all the violence came from a different country. why arent they respecting danish and later, european in general , freedoms? it took a LONG time (6 months) before a protest in europe took place, and only after the violent ones started in the ME.

im still waiting for even one influential Imam to call his people to peace, not some envoy to europre who has to do the right PR thing, but a leader of a mosque or a brigade. also, when are we going to see a mass gathering for peace amoung the people.

I live by the same standard, it's just not my only one. And how does this equate to barbarism, trying to defend the constitutional rights I have here? When I was talking about returning the favour, I was talking of the cartoons. Not about slaughtering people.

Apart from that: it won't stop other people from doing to you what they don't want you to do to them. And that's what's happening here now IMO. And it's hypocritical to say the least.
