    Potential Teachers Strike

Tonight at midnight is the deadline for both sides to reach an agreement or they walk.

Our teachers are fighting for better pay and less of a work load. The initial vote to strike was about 82% in favour of walking. If they walk it will go from anywhere from 1-3 weeks.

I have never been through a teachers strike and I have mixed feelings about it...I would love some more time off school to maybe relax and get some of my work completed, but when we come back the semester will stay the same just condensed,

Have any of you actually experienced a teachers strike while in college/university? What are your thoughts?

Earning more by working less... What's that? New Economy logics?

Never had a strike when I was in school/uni and I'm happy about that. The only one who's fucked are the students anyway.

Teachers as a whole get the shit end of the stick constantly. They are the world's babysitters, except they don't get to choose who they sit for. Teachers have to put up with every reject's kids out there and they have they're hands tied behind they're back. It's definitely a job for people who love what they do. But I still think they need to be paid more. I say take some money from these overpaid sports crybabies and divi it up amongst the teachers. and as forthe strike, I hope they accomplish their objective. ( which i know they probably won't.)

man, please dont even get me started on this one. those "sports crybabies" are a more valuable asset to the city than a teacher is, theres a million teachers and the "sports crybabies" are athletes at the top of their game. not to mention they bring in money for the city, investment, and other things.

I definately agree that it is one of the hardest jobs out there and a very valuable job to society as without teachers who would train the next drs, etc.

I also agree they need more money for some of the crap they put up with, but at the same time, I paid a good chunk of money to get an education, and expect it in the time frame I was given, as I have bills to pay as well...and want to get a good job

If it wasn't for the teachers you probably wouldn't even know how to write on this page we're on right now. Sportsplayers are doing something that the majority of the world envies them for.yet 10 million dollars a year isn't enough to cover their greed. Plus the fact that most of them can retire in like ten years or so. Teachers have to be employed for at least thirty years to come out even. Comments from people like Latrell Sprewell saying he needs more money because he can't afford to feed his family , make me sick. Nothing can change my view on the whole athlete topic so don't even try. They a re a bunch of greedy mother fuckers plain and simple.

And School you have to pay for is a completely different subject. I was talking about public school in the U.S

^^^ agreed....sports figures are disgustingly overpaid. Something is seriously wrong with society in the sense that we pay someone $10 mill to run down a court bouncing a ball, but we under pay doctors, police officers, firemen, etc that save our lives......and without teachers we wouldn't be able to continue fill these jobs

I'm not saying all athletes are shitbags, but lately they aren't doing a lot to help their cause. I love sports myself but it's still ludricrous to discredit teachers and say that athletes give any more to their city then teachers do.
