Pop up Blocker, Anti Spy Anti Spam -ware?

What is the best to get to prevent all those things happen like pop up spam spyware...

I just put a new system on my computer and i want to protect myself the best way.

I think this thread will be useful for more people than just me.

Get ZoneAlarm, a free firewall to protect yourself.

Get Webroot's Spysweeper and AdAware. Spysweeper has gotten more stuff off my comp that adaware, spybot, all those other programs combined.

Use Mozilla/FireFox instead of Internet Explorer, since the majority of these ad programs are targeted at Microsoft IE.

And for fucks sake, stop visiting those German Pee Porn sites.

Google Toolbar is a nice add-on that blocks pop-ups if you use IE. I prefer Opera, it has some nice pop-up blocking options.

For spyware control, Spybot search & destroy.

yep...since I quit using explorer and started using Firefox I picked up 4 spywares in 2 months...

with explorer that number was always 200-300

I use spybot search&destroy 1.3 and adware 6.0 and never have anymore problems thank god...
you can do a search on google and download them....

agree on both point! also, ad-aware will find stuff Spybot doesn't, and vice-versa.

zonealarm???????? no way. their version 5 release has been a disaster!
the first two releases of 5 did not work properly, & the third one released the other day worked for 12 hours for me, then i could not even boot up. just switched to macafee for firewall. IMO, zonealarm was great, but is currently bad news...

the first two releases of 5 did not work properly, & the third one released the other day worked for 12 hours for me, then i could not even boot up. just switched to macafee for firewall. IMO, zonealarm was great, but is currently bad news...

1. use antivirus program; the best is Norton Antivirus
2. use firewall program: good and easy to use is ZoneAlarm
3. use windowsupdate.com especially if you have windows xp or 2000
4. always keep up to date your computer (virusdefinitiosn, hotfix, ...)

yeah... first releases of version 5 were a disaster... they kept hanging up my connection... but now it works nice, just as before.

BTW, some people have reported the latest version of ZAP conflicting with Opera, causing freeze-ups in the browser.
