      Xgl is in action already.

      Looks *very* polished and I'll be installing it as soon as the next Ubuntu release comes out.

      It's amazing how well they've implemented it. A complete replacement to the current X server, totally OpenGL. You can see in the demos on the Novell site (they developed it), that you can have a video playing, move it off the side of the screen, rotate the cube and the video will play without any issues and smoothly on both sides of the cube!

      It just a matter of having some decent composition managers written up now. The composition manager is the thing that handles the 3d desktops and stuff, while the X server is what handles the graphical backend and all the 3d.

      This is a good move for the future. If video cards stop handling 2d and draw everthing in 3d the linux desktop has secured itself for the future.
