how do I send money overseas ...

I don't want to use paypal, because they charge huge fees for sending money and for currency conversion. Is there any alternative? I looked at western union but they had large fees as well..

I'm trying to send money for some music equipment I want to buy from a guy in the UK, and I'm in US.

Anyone have any experience in this? I can't seem to find anything good out there. Should I go through my bank?

why does paypal charge huge fees? they dont when i send money on there... ive bought lots of cds from europe and they just charge the us dollar equivalent of the pound/euro purchase price, never add extra.

hey guys, the last pigeon never returned to me, so that's out.

The paypal fees are incurred by the reciever of the money. For example check out this quick calculator and you will see the fees add up quickly!

I'm working with this guy to try to save us both money, so we decided not to go through paypal. Unfortunately he cannot accept credit card payment, as he is just a dude selling some used stuff, not a merchant.

I will call my bank today.

the only reason I was not considering western union is they have a maximum on how much you can send i think, and I was just barely over that amount when they added their fees (by about $20 I think)..

Yeah no question. Do a money transfer direct to the guys account.

Personally, I?ve used Western Union a lot of times with no problem whatsoever, but then it wasn?t really that much money each time.

Western Union X2 to avoid the fees.

But agreed, if it's Ebay and the buyer says nothing but MO, Check, or WU, I would be very wary...

thanks for the advice everyone! But no way would I buy something from a shady ebay seller like that. This is a friend of a friend, and I'm trying to save us both money here. I considered just mailing the check, but that takes time, and I don't know if he would get a crappy exchange rate or not (not sure which country to do the exchanging in). I think if I do exchanging from usd to gbp here it I get a better rate than if I did that in GB... ???
