Well here we are with another show, time flies and all that. Andy Hunter and myself are on holiday this month so taking up the helm we have some amazing guest dj's. First up this month are the boys from Silver Planet Records with some hot mixes.
NICK LIOUSIAS: Nick is a 19 year old DJ from Kent! His passion for dance music started at a mere 8 years of age upon hearing ?Experience? by the Prodigy. As he grew older, he got into the hardcore and drum & bass scene but at the age of 15 he discovered progressive house. With one listen to Sasha?s ?Global Underground Ibiza? Nick was blown away.
He promply went and bought a set of cheap decks and has not looked back since. One year later at the age of 16, Nick won a Young DJ Competition on Kiss 100, his prize being set of Vestax Decks and Mixer. This was a further catalyst for his DJ career.
Nick soon started to DJ at house parties and it as not long before he got DJ work in and around Maidstone and Ashford in bars such as the River Bar, V Bar etc and clubs including The Loft.
However it wasn?t until Silver Planet Recordings got their hands on one of Nick?s infamous but rare mix cds that things really started to happen. Nick?s gigs around the UK early this year have included clubs such as Audio Deluxe (London) and Empathy (London) & (Bristol). In fact, Nick won Audio Deluxe?s Breaks Competition! Future gigs are also lined up in Manchester, Birmingham, London and Greece. Nick played for Silver Planet at their Christmas party at Bed Bar in London to a crowd of industry insiders and impressed the likes of Jonathan Lisle!
Nick?s outstanding DJ skills will also be showcased on the next Silver Planet compilation ?Archives?. The CD is a history lesson in Silver Planet?s finest moments and show his diversity as a DJ, by mixing prog, breaks, tech and house. Unlike most mix CDs on the market Nick decided he wanted to mix it live. ?Silver Planet Archives? will be released in summer 2004.
Nick has also taken his first steps in the world of production. His first track ?Pluto? (a co-production with fellow up and coming producer Ashley White) has been signed to Silver Planets new subsidiary label Secret Planet Recordings. The track features on the forthcoming compilation ?The Secret Planet? out in June as well as on a limited edition 12? release simply titled Secret Planet 002 (y-side).
Nick?s current influence is James Zabiela and Jon Lisle who never cease to amaze him with their decks wizardry. As a result Nick has become somewhat of a master of scratching. His other main influences are Underworld, DJ Shadow, Unkle Sounds, Aim, Adam F, Massive Attack, Hybrid and Quivver.
Nick?s aim is to keep bringing new and exciting music to new audiences.

CHRIS SALT: A 23 year-old computer wizard with a degree from Cambridge University, Chris Salt is no stranger to music. Alongside his piano and violin training, Chris started writing dance tracks on his home computer at the young age of 11 in 1992 at the height of the rave scene of which he was a big fan.
Chris carried on writing Prodigy-style acid-house tracks as a teenager but it was at university that he got into different types of music ranging from punk and indie to underground dance music. After playing lead guitar in a college punk covers band, Chris got into DJing and landed his first gig at a college ball put on in association with Slinky alongside Rob Tissera and John ?00? Fleming. More university DJ gigs followed and acted as inspiration for Chris seriously to take up music production and he began to spend all his spare time writing music.
By becoming a journalist for the clubbing website Spaced in his final year at university, Chris reviewed several events (Sasha @ Telewest Arena 2001, Gatecrasher @ NEC 2001 and Gatecrasher NYE 2001 etc.) and a load of vinyl promos which proved to be a good source of tunes for his uni gigs. Around this time, Chris made friends with Chris Ferris, a progressive Melbourne DJ and a mate of Phil K?s who taught him the art of keymixing records. Chris was so inspired by this that he has written his own keymatching database software to come up with cool bootleg combinations.
It was around August 2002 that Chris began to make progress with his production work. Phone calls from EMI and Sony about his demos made him start to believe in himself and this was reflected in the quality of his music which in turn led DJ Ferris to play out one of Chris? tracks to 10,000 clubbers at a big festival. But it took another year of late nights and experimenting with synths before more phone calls started coming from top progressive labels and DJs. Chris is now looking forward to a prolific production career with Silver Planet!
Chris? professional DJ career has also taken off. His smooth blend of driving prog and liquid breaks have wowed crowds in London and lead him all the way to Tokyo (Pearl Lounge, Tokyo). Japanese promoters were so impressed with him that they?ve asked to come back on a regular basis. Chris? recently played his second gig in Japan at Club Simoon?s Anniversary Party in Tokyo on 27th January 2004. Since then Chris has rocked crowds in eK (Southampton), Empathy (London), Empathy (Bristol) and Audio Duluxe (London). This summer Chris is jetting off to Poland in July and Greece in August! Plans are in action for a forthcoming US tour too.
Chris? first single ?Dub Sonar?, released on 26 April 2004, has received support from the likes of Sasha, Sander K, Nick Warren, Quivver, Slacker, Jonathan Lisle, Steve Gerrard and many more!
His second release for Silver Planet ?Atmospheric Graffiti? (out autumn 2004) has already been championed by the likes of Nick Warren and Anthony Pappa. Nick Warren was so impressed with the track that he has named it as his tune of the year. Anthony Pappa much the same as Nick Warren has been caning the track for months and has licensed it for his new Balance 006 compilation as well as Chris? tough breaks re-work of ?Main Element ? Delta Of Venus?.
Chris has been busy remixing for Precinct and Kickin Records as well as mixing the forthcoming Fear Of A Silver Planet 3 - the first 2CD installment of Silver Planet's compilation series!
