thanks man, yeah it's tough. it's weird, i've had 2 uncles, an aunt, 2 very good friends of the family, and one of my best friends die in the past 3 years. needless to say it's been very hard. for some reason it bothers me in a different way when an animal is killed. not worse by any stretch, just different...i just feel that they have no capacity for what is happening to them

my parents had to put my Golden Retriever down a few years ago... I was 21ish. I had already been living away from the parents for 3 years, and they live about 3 hours from my house, so I went from being "the owner" of the dog to setting some distance from her. it didn't hit me bad, but the rest of my family couldn't stand it... they ended up getting a new puppy that same week before they stopped crying and started laughing and smiling again. you should look into a new puppy man. of course it won't ever replace the hole, but it will help fill it. you'll definitely love any puppy you guys take in

my mom divorced my stepdad earlier this year, and I helped my mom move out to a new place... she found the ashes of our Golden and started crying when her & he both said they didn't want the ashes. now I have them in my closet... not sure what to do with them.

that's rough man. We picked up our dog as an 8 week old puppy the same day my then-girlfriend, now-wife moved in -- he's so much a part of the family, it's tough to know that we will in all likelihood outlive him.

Putting a dog down is never any fun. 16 years is a great and long life for a dog, though -- cheers to Max...

My golden lab only lasted 12 years, and then her hips went, seems to be a common occurrence with that breed. It was rough putting her down, she was definitely part of the family.

                  My sympathy.

Have lost several pets and it still hurts today.

Those memories will always be part of your life.

just have to realize that you probably did the right thing, dogs lives are ruined once they start to go. eating, moving, even thier perception goes quick, i put down my old border collie after 13 years when a tumor grew on his neck. was really sad because he seemed to know what was gonna happen when we took him to the vet...... i cried for awhile and was depressed for weeks.

Sorry to hear about putting your dog down. A few years back I had to put down my collie/shetland mix. She was one hell of a dog with a great personality. Its amazing how attached they become to you especially if you've seen them grow with you over the years. Makes me sad just thinking about it now.

lame dude... very sorry to hear that.

my familys last dog was taken in to get fixed, and they didnt know that there was a blood clotting problem and the poor thing bled to death... was very sad, my mother and sister went to pick the dog up, and the vet told them she's fine, i'll go get her, and went back to get her and found her dead...
