Sasha & Digweed Crobar 03/31/06 Reviews

I'm sure others will disagree and I'll get blasted for what I'm about to say, however here goes. Digweed started at approximately 1:15 and started off with three great tracks. Sorry, don't know the names. I thought I was in for the set of my life, since I missed WMC!!! Then it had few ups and several flatlines for me personally. Each played for approximately 1 hour before the other would return. Towards the end of the night, the intervals got shorter. Heard several songs from the Space Terrace set from both S & D. And at one point around 4am I thought the night was going to take a turn for the better. As Digweed laid down two great vocal tracks from the Space set again and the place got excited. I'm not a trainspotter so I'll let others who were there take a stab at which ones I'm talking about. But yet again, the momentum was not kept. I know these sets are suppose to be journeys with peaks and valleys. But is just seemed like there were more valleys than peaks. A very musically inclined friend who was there described the night as having lots of fillers. All and all is was a good set IMO but not a great one. I'm sure the threads about Pawnshop, the Boat Party, and Space didn't help any with my expectations. But with these two, their experience and access to records I just wanted more. The night never seemed to get in the proper groove for me personally. Again it wasn't a bad night by any means. And was leaps and bounds above the last two times I heard Sasha at Glow in D.C. Though, it wasn't the deep, dark and dirty Digweed I read about during WMC and was expecting. Met some great ms'rs for the first time and some others it was great to see for the first time since last years WMC (2005). Sasha's encore was a remix of the femal vocal at the 43:30min of his Space Terrace set. The main lyric is "because we are beyond friends, you never be alone again" So can't complain too much since Digweed started the night off great and Sasha ended it great. The last hour was also mostly uphill during which time Sasha played the majority of the time.

So I drove the 2.5 hours leaving work last night at 9. Walked in the doors of Crobar at midnight. And left Crobar at just after 7am and returned straight back to work. I feel sorry for those in the office w/ me today. And how am I not going to crash before I get off work at 9pm tonight, your guess is as good as mine.

When I listen to Space Terrace sets again, I'll try and plug in more names/lyrics to give a better idea of what was played.

            1. Mexicans/Latinos from the South bringing drugs and killings n' shit.
            2. African Americans cause mos def they are raging a race war and want to occupy America like how the plebs occupied Wall St.
            3. Iranians/Afghans/Any one of middle eastern origin to be quite frank, cause you know Islam...
            4. North Koreans/Chinese cause you know everything...

yeah, nice work on the all nighter, that is going out like a pro.

Sorry the night didn't live up to expectation, but that's the way expectations are. There was probably someone there last night who's never been to a night like that and had the time of his life. Meanwhile in the megahype afterglow of WMC, it can be difficult for any set to live up to all that cheddar.

                  Right here.

First time at a club in NYC
First time seeing Sasha and/or Digweed without the lights coming on at 2
First time meeting some of you fine folks

Last night was without question the best night I've ever had out. Period. The music blew my mind, the place had me stunned, and the atmosphere left me speechless. Every aspect of the night was a 10/10, even the 3 1/2 hour ride there and back. For someone who lives in a city like New York and can get that 7 nights a week, I can see how it might lose some luster after a while, but for someone who experienced it for the first time - this will be something I won't soon forget.

To those [ms]'ers I met - it was a pleasure. To those I didn't - my apologies,we'll try again soon. I can just only hope everyone who went had as much fun as I did.

SnD was sorta disappointing for me too. sasha tore that club crobar apart this past January byhimself, but this time, it felt like they never really got into the peak time grooves they usually get into. if they did, it would only last 30 minutes and go away, and them come back a little, but go away again

they did do great from 5-7am. but 1-4am their music was really whatevers. they built it a little too long and half the crowd already left because they werent feeling the music

Yah, thats what happens after hearing a WMC set and then going in w. similar expectations, as said already "ya never know." Your description was how I felt after seeing diggz in LA a lil while back...

It was fun while it lasted...

can you say what the fuck happened to me last night?

sick tunes all night. digweed did about 2 hours of nothing but deep dark minimal tunage that rocked my mind. a few of us got booth bracelets and VIP braceltes and i was in the booth, and actually watched the crowd from the terrace with diggers standing right next to me watching too. crazy. andy and him were chatting and i look right next to me and digweed is standing there.
then i disappeared up into the rafters and wandered around just chilling. certain things got to my mind for awhile and i didnt even think twice to find ppl after awhile and i was zoned.

                          wild night.

Yeah.... what was up with the fear of the dancefloor sydrome...?

I got to meet GerryD (again a year later, twas a pleasure), and I saw/met Andy and wife for 3 seconds at the pub...

After we got Hansh and friends in (we got their tickets on our card cuz they couldnt from mexico) I didnt see him for the rest of the night (and he's already landed back in Mexico by now I think)

Heather (hypo's wife) was dancing with my friend's and I for a while, as was Rubyraks, and then Daveman, and djd21 hung with us for the long haul and my afterparty (fucking class I tell ya, and I finally met Wanni and him and his gal joined the after as well)

As for the rest of you (save for Sean making a cameo for 10 minutes, and Andy's Wife who I heard felt ill) sorry you couldnt suck it up to come down onto the floor after it thinned out a bit and say hello... I was even texting with some of you, but to no avail.... oye, amatuers I'll have to assume....
