          Close all explorer/internet explorer windows, open My Computer, turn on the Status Bar, Tools, Options, View, Apply to All Folders, Yes, OK. Open explorer... Let's see if that fixes the problem.

            Re:: any idea why my explorer status bar keeps dissapearing?

            or maybe this... open notepad, copy this text into it:
            Code:
            REGEDIT4

            [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\]
            Show_StatusBar="yes"
            Save the file to your desktop with the name FIX.REG (make sure the "Save as type" box is set to All Files) and close notepad. Close all explorer/internet explorer windows. Double-click FIX.REG and click Yes to import settings, then click OK. Check Explorer, maybe that will fix it.

                      Too right! Firefox is a great browser. Once you've got used to tabbed browsing it's horrid to go back to IE.

                        keep current with IE/OS patches and you don't get any spyware problems with IE. I prefer the OS's ALT+TAB over tabbed browsers, and IE is compatible with any site or any javascript/vbscript out there.

                        I used to hate ms products, then I realized that they are the determining factor in a lot of software standards these days. As long as you do your part to keep up-to-date with the critical updates, their software usually works like a champ. doesn't mean I don't like Netscape or Firefox or Mozilla or Opera, etc, I just don't see a reason to get a new wheel when the one I have just needs a little air from time to time.

                          work machine so probably not a good idea to go installing another browser

                          they'd probably tell me it was a virus risk and unstaill it like they did with MSN

                            USE FIREFOX

                            i agree with arielus and ian, tabbed browsing, built in popup blocker, with the download statusbar plugin, firefox is the best browser i've come across.

                              For me that's crucial. Others may have cool add ons, but that's the important part. Once you start doing your own web pages you notice that IE leads the pack here. And I don't really have any problem with spyware... What is it that everybody's talking about?
