That's so sad.. I just hope he isnt affected by this to much as he gets older as far as thinking maybe it was his fault or he could have done more. the kid did what he was meant to do, and the operator should be charged with manslaughter. <<< maybe a bit extreme, but i hope they have night mares for years hearing that little boys voice trying to save his mum.

any of you hear the 911 call where the idiot asked if the woman wanted them to come shoot her daughters after she called saying her kids were fighting out of control? how do these people get these important jobs ffs!

This is crap. 911 operators are trained to not take any chances. They are supposed to take all calls seriously. What a sad story...

no kiddin drew. i've never been to detroit myself, but the picture i have in my head just went pitch black because of this story.
the operator has one job: to report the calls and send the right people for the job.
it is certainly not the operators discretion to determine whether or not this is a prank.

this person needs to be fired, fined, and jailed.

not sure how the law works but maybe one or more of you can answer this:

is the operator guilty of manslaughter?

In Belgium that would be neglecting duty with death as result and/or refusal to help a person in distress. Both pretty heavy charges.
