          Re: rockin' tunage

DJ-Kicks, the seminal compilation series produced by K7 Records is to add to its already expansive mix of collaborators by including dubstep legend Burial to produce the next in the series.

DJ-Kicks has already seen some of the most interesting and diverse multitude of compilations produced by a wide range of artists including Carl Craig, Hot Chip and Kruder & Dorfmeister.

In one of their boldest moves ever, the next mix will now be produced by the infamous recluse Burial.

As with every record in the DJ-Kicks series, the mix will see a brand new track produced exclusively for the mix series.

Burial has defied critics by attracting a wide audience to the niche market that is dubstep, and has managed to produce one of the biggest albums of 2007 with playing no shows, and rarely doing any interviews.

          The official press statement states:

!K7 are buzzing on the announcement that the next installment in the DJ-Kicks series comes from the hugely acclaimed, underground dubstep producer BURIAL.
The South London producer is notoriously shy of press and public performances, yet his last two albums on the Kode 9 Hyperdub label have established him as one of the global leaders in this exploding scene on word-of-mouth alone.
The latest DJ-Kicks from Four Tet, Henrik Schwarz, Booka Shade and Hot Chip have all pushed new limits in eclecticism, making linear genre-specific DJ mixes a thing of past.

          Tracklist

          Teebee - daywalker (burial remix)
          Amon Tobin - slowly
A Guy Called Gerald - flawless
Brian Eno - music for harry
          Burial - stairwell
Burial - etched headplate (burial remix)
          Bong Ra - f all
Future sound of London - dead cities (burial remix)
dj FOOD - the crow (burial remix)
A Tribe called quest - problems
Fanu - for those that dream
          Breakage - clarendon
          Stranjah - g riddim
          Todd Edwards - holy
          Esthero - swallow
Mary j Blige - lift it up (burial remix)

Anthony Rother - destroy him my robots
Masters at work - NY soul
          Luke Slater - jackhammer funk

            Re: rockin' tunage

You probably know Peter M. Kersten best as Lawrence, head honcho of Dial Recordings and producer of widescreen, emotionally charged house and techno 12"s and LPs for NovaMute, Mule Electronic, Kompakt, Ladomat 2000 and liebe*detail, as well his own Hamburg-based imprint. On September 8th Kersten is set to release a new album under his Sten guise, entitled The Essence.

Kersten's work as Sten sees him jettison the broad cinematic brushstrokes of the Lawrence project in favour of a more detailed, abstract yet functional club sound. His love of classic Detroit techno, not to mention texture-obsessed twentieth century composers like Arvo Part and Krysztof Komeda, is apparent in the brittle, ghostly melodies that inhabit his snappy minimal rhythms; the rhythms themselves demonstrate his consummate understanding of what it takes to hypnotize a dancefloor.

The Essence is nothing less than impressive - Kersten, a supremely talented producer, never truly disappoints - but its austerity can be a little draining on the home listener. Each of the nine tracks comprising The Essence will serve DJs and dancefloors well, but they fail to convince as a coherent album-length statement, and it's difficult not to find oneself comparing the experience, unfavourably, to Lawrence's two melodious, boundlessly imaginative LPs for NovaMute, The Absence of Blight (2003) and The Night Will Last Forever (2005).

            Tracklist:

            01 - Daylight
            02 - Unknown Faces
            03 - Gate
            04 - Squares
            05 - Essence
            06 - More Stash
07 - Take Me To The Fridge
            08 - City Of Dust
09 - Way To The Stars

Matthew Dear - Body Language 7

One of the US's most high-profile techno purveyors Matthew Dear will take the reins of the celebrated Body Language series this fall.

As Audion, Matthew Dear has been wowing audiences around the globe with his stunning live sets; as Matthew Dear's Big Hands, the producer indulges his jones for being a Bowie-esque frontman; as Matthew Dear...well...what does Matthew Dear do these days? Apparently the answer is DJ some of minimal techno and deep house's greatest hits, if the tracklisting to Body Language Vol. 7 is any indication. The gang is all here: Johnny D's "Orbitalife," DJ Koze's " I Want to Sleep," a Radio Slave remix, even a track predictably titled "Get Deep." It's nothing if not a barometer of where the scene is today ,with Kalabrese, Sascha Dive and an exclusive Dear track also making the cut.

The Timewriter - Resensed Part Two

Plastic City presents the second part of the “The Timewriter Resensed Series” with yet another great remix collection of tracks of one of the label’s most important and most influencing artists. Just like the first part, Resensed Part Two is a journey through more than 12 years of The Timewriter. Established artists as well as fresh young talents from around the globe were invited to create their own interpretations of various tracks taken from all five The Timewriter albums “Letters From The Jester”, “Jigsaw Pieces”, “Diary Of A Lonely Sailor”, “Paintbox” and “Soulstickers”. Out came an unbelievably diverse collection of interpretations. The styles are ranging between full peak time tunes with wide melodic chord arrangements, dry and dusty minimal funk, sexy and romantic love soundtracks, multi-layered rhythm structure odysseys, dark and techno influenced Deep House, summer-breezed drives in progressive House arrangements, flavours of relaxed Lounge or big, dubby basslines. And this time around we present to you mixes made by fine artists such as Terry Lee Brown Junior, Milton Jackson (Tronicsole, Glasgow Underground), the Berlin-based Einzelkind duo, François Dubois aka Funk D’Void, the fresh face from Sweden Johan Ilves (Kinky Vinyl, Loopfreaks), Daniel Kyo (Next Dimension Music), as well as Berlin-based Sasse (Moodmusic), the new talent Manuel Tur aka Arcade Mode (Mada, Brickhouse), Bucher & Kessidis (Exun, 8bit), New York-based Beat Pharmacy (Deep Space Media, Eskimo) and from Manchester, Solonaut aka Adam Cox (who was once of this planet but after the slow prelonged death of Hip Hop, he left). This compilation is a mirror of The Timewriter’s (aka Frank Cochois) work and showcases the huge influence his tracks had and still have to the electronic music scene.
