super advanced warning : Liber Dogma will be released on Soma Records in October 2011 !!

      The Black Dog | Liber Dogma {Soma}

Soma Records are proud to announce The Black Dog’s new album Liber Dogma. Liber Dogma will be released on the label in October 2011 and will feature a sound The Black Dog have honed through their renowned live sets, focusing on raw and rhythmic sounds made for the dancefloor. This work will contrast with their most recent albums, Music For Real Airports, Further Vexations and Radio Scarecrow – but will be sure to be as well received.
The Black Dog said: “This album is about surrendering to hypnotic, physical music played loud in big, dark rooms. We always wanted to make an album that reflects the kind of set we play live, and that’s what we’ve done with Liber Dogma. It’s all about red lights, a smoke machine, a single strobe, a Funktion One soundsystem… and The Black Dog. We’ve played all over the world and we’ve brought that vibe back to our lab. Forget the fancy lighting, the indoor scarves, the hair do’s and the hair don’ts – fuck all of that. Music is about losing yourself and having a good time with friends and that’s what this album will help you do.”

Toolroom Knights Mixed by Umek - Out 13th March

2010 was an exceptional year for the Slovenian artist and 1605 record label boss Umek. Widely regarded as one of the most influential players in the global techno scene and a true pioneer of forward thinking electronic music, it was a year that saw him pack out the biggest clubs and land numerous download chart topping releases including ‘Back In The Race’ and ‘OMGWTF’. Consistently creating a cutting edge sound that continues to evolve and remain at the forefront of an ever shifting market, Toolroom are delighted to announce Umek as the next DJ to preside over the latest in our Toolroom Knights compilation series.

              Video Advert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y_n_PRcFhY

Featuring no less than 8 album exclusives, 36 carefully selected tracks in total, Umek doesn’t hold back as the gauntlet is laid down for a twisted, fast paced techno masterclass. So, fasten your seatbelts and brace yourself for an aural onslaught that will leave you battered, bruised but begging for more...

‘Toolroom Knights Mixed by Umek’ features 2 exclusives by the main man himself, with the first being his collaboration with PHNTM ‘Dead Space’, a nod towards his groovier side whilst ‘Sarajevo’ is filled with funky dance floor flavours. Key highlights of the album are undoubtedly Phunk Investigation’s relentless ‘Wall Of Sound’ and the pulsating ‘Red Ryder’ from Hertz which quite literally rips through the speakers with a violent bassline forming the equivalent of a heavy blow to the back of the skull. Christian Cambas’ ‘The Robospanker’ and Traumer’s ‘Rolling Life’ continue the driving grooves whilst ‘That Body’ by Da Fresh and Mike Spaccavento’s ‘That’s Done It’ conjure up deep, early morning, heads down monsters. Notable entries also include Michael Woods ‘Nitro’, Koen Groeneveld ‘CVR’, Funkagenda ‘Astana’, Riva Starr’s remix of Butch’s ‘XTC’ plus further tracks from ThreeSixty, Matteo DiMarr, Adam K and a whole load more.

                Re: Forthcoming releases

The Chemical Brothers wrote the soundtrack to Hanna a Joe Wright-directed film starring Saoirse Ronan (Wright previously directed her in Atonement). The film also stars Eric Bana and Cate Blanchette. Ronan plays the title character, a 16-year-old superspy who is being pursued across Europe, so the soundtrack required a lot of tension-building tracks. “Contain Park” is one of those tracks, it’s eerie and grinding with some abrupt and unexpected twists over its three minutes.

Serdar Ors - I Miss You Michael Jackson
                  description
Yet, while no one would have the gall to claim that the simply-titled Michael scales the dizzy heights of Off The Wall or
Thriller, it nonetheless presents itself as a unified piece of work and testament to the man’s continued energy and
inspiration. There is a danger, however, of its musical merits being overlooked because of the various unanswered
                  questions that surround its completion.

The first track opens with Serdar Ors, ‘I Miss You Michael Jackson’ and composed in the typical sentimental
format, almost sounds like the culmination of a fiercely independent and inspiring career. Skittering percussion and
gut-wrenching bass separately refer back to progressive stages of his development, conveniently assembled together in one walloping package. The sounds and textures are familiar to Serdar devotees but dialed up to an almost obscene level: the live-sounding drum samples could level walls, and the curiously static-wracked bass is a noxious cloud of gritty
                  particulate.

Also the remixer Boral Kibil solidifies his versatility to adjust to different styles while making it a dance floor destroyer, adding necessary vocal sample and taking it dangerously close to the generic fare that the original looks down upon. It's a rousing, inspiring tune that beautifully blends classicism and futurism.

                  Fyono - Orient

                  description
The tunes are structured excellently and flow professionally. Sections build, then drop down into some other idea before
becoming overbearing, with less volume but no loss in momentum. On "Orient" Fyono returns to the gritty industrial soundscape that was showcased on last year's venture for 3024.

A slowly building intro gives way to a flurry of clanging percussion, coupled with a string sample that will have the
track sitting comfortably if dropped at the right time.
Liquid Sound remix however, that's the highlight growling vibes on display, while not being much more than a short
and straightforward loop, mixes superbly with the intermittent sounds and digital keys.

                  Franzis-D - Mediterranean EP

In an era where consistent sonic trademarking often gets confused for a creative stall—where the demand for "ingenuity" often outstrips that for sheer persistence and quality—few imprints have been as diligent and attentive in defining their crystalline brand of house music.

That said, original mix, "Mediterranean," is ornamented with an unexpected yet subtle acidic bass line—the kind of welcomed attention to detail you also find on "Blue Rose," with its soft yet stabbing bassline and arpeggiated synths. This is where Franzis-D decade-long studio experience is showcased to staggering effect.

The remix of Mad Morello as a passionate melomane superfluous and tautological, but as an overall musical statement, it is superlative and visionary in the most affirmative of ways.

On the other hand the Coldberg & Repton remix made with the quality listener in mind, making this a well rounded the EP for all fans of good progressive music. The EP straight into the Progressive House style we all love – Dark, fast and filled with chunky, driving percussions, a very playable and definitely a killer tracks for all DJ sets is an ethereal trip into the realms and ambient progressive house. Featuring twisted synthwork, a groovy bassline, strong pads & techy percussions – This tracks shows the other side of this rising producers’ personality – light, groovy and full of quality.

Alexander Anufriev - Word is Silver, Silence is Gold EP

Alexander Anufriev delighting the audience with music and of course handing her his mood, many years of his career, managed to play at various parties of his native city, which has gained broad experience and brought it to fruition.
The whole thing has an intensely circular progression, the swollen-bottom end contrasting with the resonant gunmetal of the slicing drum samples.

If "Absorption" almost manages to escape the enwombing inertia that so characterizes Alexander, "Word is silver, silence is gold" practically flails around whatever room is brave enough to play it, the rippling drums and voices can barely stay afloat on the turbulent layer.

It's all pale tones and dead thuds until a distracting and gleefully stretched synth knocks the track off its axis.

                    Re: Forthcoming album releases

                    Azur Odobasic - Pay Attention

At least some of that nostalgic weight comes from the claustrophobically matter-of-fact vocal that winds its weary way along the path laid out by the deeply insistent drum track.

Azur Odobasic gallops on a steady, slightly syncopated beat, making use of exaggerated sound effects that dip, tug and snap back, each bar tipping over into an extended drum fill whose gleeful novelty never quite wears off.

On the other part Fyono's remix is all about the synth chords, which pulse softly in slow-mo strobelight fashion, splaying themselves in a chrome-plated mess across the track. It's that particular bassline that remains one of the most memorable parts of the track. That, and a murmuring vocal sample that constantly lurks beneath the surface, betray an outside influence.

                    Fanyo - White to fusion

Fanyo is not concerned with blowing your mind. He's more concerned with doing what he does best, doing what he only knows how, DJ and producer that has had his head professionally buried in house music for the best part of a decade.

One of the standout mellow tunes is the opening "White to fusion" whose bouncing, is a strong mood-setter. The neat segue into "Trouble in my head" underscores the album's strong sense of cohesiveness—it's less about the personalities of single tracks than the feeling of a eight-track sculpted whole.

Sometimes the grooves endlessly re-start and churn up and down, sometimes they sulk in a more emotionally vulnerable corner and sometimes they roll out, edgelessly, into the deep recesses of space, but they always hit the mark and avoid loopy ennui.
