I was wondering with CDJ's will they play a data disk of mp3 tracks
or do you have to make a regular cd of tracks
    or will it play both?

the cdj 200's do. and i think the newest version of the cdj 800's do too. of course these are pioneer products. only problem with playing mp3 discs on the 200's is that they dont allow you to ff/rr or cue VBR encoded tracks. not sure about the 800's in this case though.

no idea if other cdj makers offer this option.

200's, 800 MKII's & 1000 MKIII's are the ones...200's are dodgy on cueing, as I don't believe they allow frame scans for it (got to kind of "guess" on it). 800 or 1000's should be precise on it like you would on a CD, maybe searching through the track might be a little dodgy at times.

It's not the same really...a bad data burn instead of jumps/skips in the track would give you digital "garbles" which believe me, don't sound too hot on a decent system...

^^^^^^^^^^ Jibs and FM thanks for the feed back....
it sounds like staying away from the mp3 data disks is the safer bet

well, for maybe a here and there thing it's not a bad idea...I'm just not keen on when that's how you're doing you're whole set and the like...besides, are you really going to remember what track #89 is on that disc unless you have a printout? But the biggest kicker imo is if you have, say the 1000 MKIII's at home w/your MP3 discs, and you go to a club to play that doesn't...you're screwed bigtime.
