no shit?
its just that i always hear about there being oil in alaska.
but the govt doesnt want to tap it since the whole state is some special land.
ive heard analysts on cnn talking about alaska, and that there's enough oil to supply our entire country for 'x?x' amount of years.
I believe the reason has something to do with the oil being under a reserve of some kind(wildlife i think) and there is obviously a huge debate from activists about damaging the environment. If I remember correctly there is enough oil there to keep America running for over 100yrs.
For even more than a 100 yrs, but it's not the oil, it's tar-sand/bitumen (or whatever you call that stuff in english), which has to be processed in order to extract the oil. Only problem is that it also involves surface-mining and the extraction process is really polluting. But that sand is enough for another 1600 bln barrels....which is more than all the known reserves in the world today.
By the way: there's a pipeline from Chad to Cameroon, but that has nothing to do with the oil fields in Sudan as far as I can tell.
15% of the American oil imports come from Chad, Nigeria, Angola and other African countries. There ya go.
