Definetly. But I think should of been discussed in the general section so everyone gets a chance to comment about it.

in the words of richard from the beach, "that is just an a#@hole suggestion!!"

Has anyone here read Animal Farm?

Essentially, the animals take over the farm and then they start treating the humans like the the humans did the animals. Then, after a little while, they treat other animals the way they treat the human. Now , they are better animals.

So i'm just saying, isn't it fair that it should be just as easy for someone to get their hands on an old set that they heard about that they can't find anywhere but only the wise people of Mercuryserver (if you can't find it here then where can you find it?? and there's is a real genuine culture of sharing here) can hook them up with it as it is to get that new set that we share amonsgst ourselves? Once, you were just getting into house music and wanted that "old set" and someone here hooked you up with it.

I submit that obnoxious behavior like this will prevent people from being educated by lost house sets. What does that mean? More people who don't know shit about house music that think they do. These people are annoying.

I submit that this will lead to a decline in participation on this board.

I submit that this will eventually lead to the loss of thousands of ancient house music sets.

I study ancient texts and the history of modern thoughtin school and it is simply what happens immediately following behavior like this.

, bollocks, worked fine before as a recommend only forum. What stops people recommending old sets, nothing, it used to happen all the time. Infact i once did a thread where i uploaded all my favourite sets of all time. I submit you are talking shite

Re: [request] a new seperate part for [request]

i agree a recommend site would be awesome. and it could and probably should be separate.

The reason is, people will regularly check it out for something maybe they haven't heard before.

But what is the incentive for people who have the sets to check the separate [request] board?

              There simply is no incentive.

On the other hand, keeping them together is good. That person who sees a request that they can fulfill gets props for fullfilling it on the main board instead of on a redheaded stepchild board.

Also, one persons request, is another persons new set. I don't want to have to check two separate places and I won't.

Anyways, requests are good for everyone. They shouldn't be viewed as an "annoyance" but rather a real contribution to the community.

incentive?? i'm not sure you understand this right, there is no incentive mate. Its just something that you do. My problem with the current state of affairs is people requesting sets that either don't exist or are all over soulseek and/or torrents anyway. The whole board seems to have been taken over by them. Before you arrived here (I assume by your post count) there was a no request rule in this forum. A lot of nice people, including myself, uploaded all sorts of things for the community with no incentive required whatsoever.

                eg. http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/...&highlight=Gaz

ps. there is actually a mercuryserver room on soulseek where some people from the forum share sets between eachother. Anyone can come and enter the room whenever they like

i disagree with that too (seem to be disagreeing with everyone today). If you look at the people who have replied in this thread then its the long term supporters of this sub forum who have made it as popular as it is today (LoUis, Jula etc.).

                    Let's dissect your parable.

The incentive is there whether you are clever enough to see it or read it as I delineated in my post above. Clearly you are not clever and you cannot read. The incentive is the same that is in place for voting. My one vote will not make a difference, but I feel good and I get sort of turned on by voting. Thee I go home and have sex. It is great. Also, I know I have contributed to the greater good. Fulllfilling a request is the same thing. You fullfill it and although you may get props, this is no material benefit, but only a psychological benefit.

You described the "current state of affairs". Now since I found this site, I have fallen in love with it and I visit it every day. I can say that your declaration of a state of crisis is way off base. There is no sudden surge of requests. I would argue that less than 20 percent give or take an acceptable magin of error is requests and that doesn't sound bad to me.

*Note: And even if I was wrong, why would people care? Have people become such whiners that they can't deal with even SEEING a post that is a request? if you don't like it, don't look at it.

So, just because something "seems" to b one way or the other, it doesn't make it so. Probably, Red1 saw one post that was a request, got momentarily angry and decided he or she hates requests and commisioned a poll.

Thus this poll is commissioned on a impullsive, irrational and reactionary basis and should be disregarded.

If you need evidence of this, just look at how many people took part in the poll. Then look at how many people participate in the forum. Then compare the two. Then ask if this poll is statistically significant.

The people who participated arepeople who are angry about requests and their logic is irrational. Thus the results are skewed.

Re: [request] a new seperate part for [request]

its one thing if u know something is out there, and asking for it. i know some people cant get on to slsk, hence that is a fair copp.

But going mad and asking for every set under the sun. is nigh on impossible. If it wasnt recorded or released how the hell is it meant to be posted???

I'd love part 2 of that sander and burridge set. but the only copy was fucked up! hence i will never have it.

A request should be used as something to help the distribution of quality sets, not just because u want to get your hands on a set that u have no idea if it exists.

No one has problems sharing stuff here, the problem is "contribution". some people only request sets, and in tern don't actually post anything. This isn't meant to be a online, php soulseek. where u put in a search and up comes the stuff u want. Its a recommendations and promo's forum first and foremost.

i think that some people are forgetting that.

oh my god, "dissect my parable", "delineated". Swallowed a thesaurus eh? You my friend, are a muppet, plain and simple.
You say i dont read what you say, and then you write:
"I can say that your declaration of a state of crisis is way off base" because i used the words "the current state of affairs", obviously it is me that is not clever. You sound just like this kid i know who no-one likes.

edit: not knocking your post level, just commenting that you can have no idea what it was like before as you were not here.

if this seems like a reasonable option i'll start policing this forum a little better to keep it clean for your leeching pleasures.

if not, go get yourself some
my point is though jibgolly is that you shouldnt have too, dont you think the whole request thing has got out of hand? sometimes you come on here and there are more requests than posts on the front page..hey dont get me wrong its ok but soon you will have everyone requesting sets that they have been hunting for since the dawn of cavemen....hey look by my own admition i,m not exactly the a serious contributer to the board as 20 k upload speed between 3 computers sux but i recently i,ve noticed that some majour players on this board have been voiding it since this started.
