However, for smaller sites it's really not necessary.
    whats WYSIWYG design?

      What You See Is What You Get

      In other words, when coding your site you can see the changes live as you make them.

        ok..so like Frontpage? That you change a font in the HTML code page for instance and then you see how your website's font changes?

          Yeah, very similar to Front Page, although Dreamweavers code is a lot cleaner and more like what a real person would program - Frontpage can sometimes go way over the top on unnecessary tags!

              Here is a table tag taken from a page I know was done in Front Page. As you can see it's given it loads of attributes, most of which are on default values. Front page just isn't that smart at knowing what attributes are needed and which ones aren't - on a large page it can actually make a difference in how fast it loads up if viewed on dial up connection.

              <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor="#111111" width="200" id="AutoNumber1">

                    know your code so you can use a wysiwyg (preferrably golive and dreamweaver) efficiently.

                        There is nothing out there that compares to learning how to do it your self. Go learn some html and css and you can make a good page that loads fast!

                            I just love the way you said "produce" web pages..

                            :P

                            I use studio mx for all of the above... the extensions ability is really cool with macromedia products. they live longer as a result.

                              Go to learn some html language...
                              It's good to know Dreamweaver or other software but later you will see that is needed to know html to do a web to show faster...

                                For those of you using notepad I suggest you learn another editor if you are doing this much at all. Many other editors, bbedit, vim, exim allow for syntax highlighting and some other tricks that make the process easier. I don't know what to use on Windows though, maybe someone else knows. My suggestions above are great for Mac OS X or any other Unix.
