    Line Conditioners

Are these things that look like overgrown power strips worth it, or are they just another thing that salespeople use to add to the sale? I've bought two big screens in the last few years, and both times they've given me the full court press on line conditioners, was just curious if they made a noticeable difference or not...

when i was looking around, the pressed me for it also. the dude said typically, when you buy a new techno tv, average sales of about 30% of the tvs value is spent in accessories (wires, stands, line conditioners, extended warranties, extra batteries for the remote, etc.) ex. 2000 tv + 600 worth accessories + 225 taxes = damn near a 3 grand purchase.

but to answer the question, i have a few friends that dont have those line things & they says their pics are fine.

Yeah, I don't have line conditioners on either TV, and the picture is just fine, as far as I'm concerned. My plan was that I'd get one if I thought I needed it. At this point, it is tough to justify bucking up another $200, b/c it they both have great pictures and I can't imagine thema being appreciably better.

There is definitely a difference between using coax v. composite v. s-video v. component cables for video, and there's definitely a difference between fiber optic cable and analog audio cables. I'm sold that those purchases make a difference. I just feel like the line conditioner thing is a scam. Oh well...

That must be something new.... I used to sell big screens about 7 years ago and I have never heard of a line conditioner.

I could use a "line conditioner" with some of the bunck ass shit we get here in Indy though!!!

I believe it would depend on the quality of the power you are getting in your house. Good power surges have a pretty good warranty on them to cover your merchandise anyway.

Anything that uses a switch mode pwr supply shouldn't need surge protectors or conditioners. I feel that things like this are a con for the stupid.
