i've been to the state many times and love it. but it scares me at the same time. most of the people i've met in the states are shall we say "world wise" and that can be said of everyone on this or most other boards by virtue of the very fact that they are online and interacting with people outside their little bubble. what scares me about the states is how many people are so massivly unaware of the world around them.
Huggie ... I am a dual citizen being raised in Europe and in America. and simply from my own view and interactions, I truly have to say that statement is true.
There is a signifcant lack of education in the USA in regards to the World. Even in the US education system ... Look at wars for example ... a major portion of war education is based on what wars US were involved with. Surely other wars are touched on ... but no way as in depth as Civil War, Native Americain War, Spainsih War, WWI & WWII, etc.
Hesh ... Some people do not even know that there was a 100 year war. Sad, but this is how the US culture is bred.
Kobe I would not lie to you. There is an amazing amount of ignorance within the states. "That is in another place, why the fuck should I care?"
No question about it, those stats speak for themselves. What I am addressing the editorializing that has taken place since those statistics were copy/pasted.
The underlying accusations being thrown around in this thread is that this somehow impugns the entire population. That we are all uneducated, that we all support the GWB regime. Un-fucking-believe-able that I have to, a> put up with the shit in the first place, and THEN, b> be accused of being part of it.
LIke I said before
Sorry but I cannot escape the irony of this whole thread, an ignorant commentary about ignorace. Where is the part where I'm supposed to be impressed?
You can pretty much pull stats like this out of any population. Last year it was a poll in Britain that over half the country's teen's had not heard of Auschwitz. Does that mean that i think Brits are dense? no. Polls and stats like this are retarted and not representitive of the entire population.
frankly it does not matter at a personal level. Generally, Americans are open hearted people that drive there big cars and eat their hamburgers. so what if America are a little numb on the world issues ... I really think it is the big island thing ... " well that is so far away, will not really hurt me "
the issue ... Globalization. In fact, a ripple in any part of the world does have some adverse effects. Be it production, technology, shipping, etc. I think that is why 911 was such a horrible event in US history, just like Pearl Harbor. It was something that was never thought of or even considered. Even the US government took those "threats" lightly.

Jenks ... but this poll kinda stats a fact. Even though the poll itself may not of been done as well as we like. There is a common lack of world knowlwdge in USA.
