    when opencloud destroys [pictures]

    Patty's Blog- [entry 6]

I think my brain is functioning somewhat normally after what was Opencloud's devastation of my weekly here in Jacksonville. Working 12 hours today isnt helping my recovery period but I have shows to put on and tickets to purchase. [ha ha]

On Wednesday, we celebrated my sister Christy's birthday at the weekly. It would be Openclouds debut in my city and at the weekly. I absolutely love love love Corey and Blake. Ever since Sam let me listen to their remix of Fingerpaint eons ago, I am quite possibly their biggest fan although I think I would have to fight Sam and Bonnie for that honor. Seriously, those two are amazing and are destined for great things. They have the right attitude, they can both dj and oh yeah, they make stellar music. Yes, watch out for the Opencloud.

The party was a costume party. Who in their right mind willingly dress up in May? I thought that last year as well but apparently people love getting dressed up at random times. We take costume parties seriously down here.

Dinner ran a little late which left me scrambling and put me in a semi-bad mood. I felt rushed all day. I hate being late and I hate being rushed. It kind of sucked when everyone beat me to the club and the music has already started before I even get there. My friends rule and I totally couldnt do this without them. Matt took the cdjs to the club for me, Adam started playing, Jen and Mike had the visuals going and Ted arrived early with the monitor. I cant thank them enough. They absolutely rule.

After plugging in my I-river, I made a mad dash back to the hotel. I changed into my geisha costume or as the packaging said Zen Temptress and made a mad dash to the venue. The costume was polyester and this was the night that that air conditioning decided to break at the venue. It was blazing hot. I thought I would pass out at any given moment. I check my I-river and it decides it wants to give me a hard time. I find an outlet and prayed it was the outlet for the turntable and not the cdj Adam was using, plugged that sucker in and got to record Adams last hour.

By the time Adam began his last hour, the entire group was assembled. So many people turned up in costumes. It was incredible. Corey and Blake were Luciano and Villalobos. Bonnie was Cherry Forever. Sam was a cowboy with an inflatable microphone but as Sam said he felt like Woody from Toy Story. My sister and boyfriend were dressed as a pretty hot Bonnie and Clyde. My awesome girls Manditron was Tupac Resurrected and Rachel was a Ring Master. Teddy was a Boxer, Kwan was Rasta-man, Matt had an obnoxious but awesomely over-sized cowboy hat, Jen was Princess Leia [with light saber!], Susan was a Vampire Nun and Ill lastly mention that Jin was a walking banana. Nuts. Absolutely nuts.

Adam Wright began his last hour with a Proton release. Trafiks remix of Sub Regression. He also played three more Proton releases including Derek Howell's, Strung up, Brian Ffar's. Pop & Lock Fool as well as Deepsky & Mark Mitchells Lost In The Moment.

Adam is a really really good dj and a very creative mixer. The club was quite packed during Adams set and he got the crowd really pumped. Towards the end of his 2.5 hour set, he turns down the volume and says, Who is ready for Opencloud?! and of course us freaks start to scream. Adam was amazing this night. The dance floor was packed and people were really getting into it. The visuals were brilliant and despite it raining heavily and the air conditioning not working, it was turning out to be an epic night. There was a line outside, in the rain, on a Wednesday. Im always amazed that people show up.

So here come the Opencloud boys. As much as I go on and on about how awesome they are here in town, most everyone just didnt know what to expect. A lot of people expected the boys to play a breaks set because of the music that they produce. Other people thought they would be playing progressive house because of their name. In the end, the entire club was really into what the boys were playing. They were playing minimal, tech, shake your ass kind of music the entire night. We had people screaming, fists were pumping and it was just out of control. They played their remix of Cars That Go Boom to which people started to freak out even more. And yes, M.A.N.D.Y was played quite possibly in homage to Sunday School for Degenerates @ Pawn Shop during WMC. [ha ha]

I still worry that Blake is going to pull a muscle or go into spasms because hes all over the place as hes playing. He reminds me of Jamie from Infusion while he is playing. They both go nuts. Corey and Blake were rocking all night. They were into it, the crowd was into it, and I couldnt have asked for anything more. I was really proud of the boys and of Proton. It was a really fantastic night. One of the best ever since Ive been back at The Atlantic.

Plur was in total affect on Wednesday. Proton PLUR perhaps! It really was an amazing night. Epic. Way epic.

Shout out to everyone who traveled, who supported, who dressed up and who came to dance with me on this Wednesday and every Wednesday. I appreciate you.

    Next up: KRIECE!!
