Would you ever spend

$1400 on a camera ? I know a lot of professional photographers on here would but I'm desperately contemplating whether to get the Canon 30D or not and I'm twisted in a knot thinking (its only a CAMERA)

If I had the money, and I knew how good the camera was, and I can justify using the money on it, hell yeah. Remember, you always have that shitty gut feeling when you pull the trigger and get a "lesser" model than you intended and many times you end up spending the cash on the lower model and then the one you ultimately wanted. Now that gets expensive. I learned my lesson many, many years ago. Always get what you really want. You may spend more, but you're damn happy with the choice.

I dont know. If it's exactly what you want.
I think imo, it's a bit too much for a camera. If your a great photgrapher and that's what you've been doing, go for it.

I myself want to purchase a good one, but that's too much for me. Im thinking of getting the Sony DSC-N1 Silver. It's about $429. The most I would spend would be around $500.

But like Beanz said. Buy what you really want because if you dont, you'll surely regret it later.

Thats why I went with the Xone: 62 instead of a Pioneer. Either way, the xone was cheaper! so I guess that dont count.

I LOVE Photography and while I'm still learning the buzz words, I know what feature does what and I feel I'm on the track to doing getting a great hobby out of it.

Am I happy to settle for less ?
I've got a G5, + I'm a gadget buff. So I would love to own it, doesn't necessarily mean my mind agrees with dropping 1400 bills on it (even more if I get a good Lens)

Just bought a Nikon D50 Digital SLR camera last weekend. Not $1400, but it was not cheap.

There is no comparison between this camera and every point and shoot camera I've ever had. Worth every penny. It really depends upon what you want to do with it, though. The one I got is 6.1 MP rather than some of the 8 MP ones, because it is just for fun and I don't need to blow stuff up to sizes where I need those extra pixels.

If you've got the cash to do it, they're awesome.

as your accountant, i say no way. 1400 of google would have made you about 7k. there are better investments and cheaper cameras that will do you well. you arent working for national geographic so stop thinking like a third world starving person who was just given the idea of a turkey dinner.

As a person who doesnt live on LONG ISLAND, I would like to let you know that investments are not all financial..... with cameras just like with cars or clothing, you might not get a great resale value on some of them (in fact most anything tech-wise these days will be outdated sooner rather than later) but the satisfaction and enjoyment that you get out of them incredibly outwieghs money sitting in the bank. However having both is even better, but dont view a hot stock as the other option when making the decision of whether or not to get something that is like to paints and canvas for a painter.
