Today Portugal and England face each other. for portuguese is going to be a game very emocional... there are both good teams, so is very difficult to tell who is going to win. I think there is going to be a game without many goal´s but very emotional for both.

The 40 Year War
This upcoming Saturday it's what it's all about, WAR. A 40 year War that is being waged since July 26th 1966 and will have it's latest episode this Saturday July 1st 2006.
For 40 years the Portuguese Republic and England have waged many battles, some won, some lost, some draws, some memorable some forgettable but the longer the war is waged the richer the lore and rivalry and passion in this epic strugle between 2 countries culturally so far appart.
Has England really, trully ever won the World Cup?
Recent digitally-enhanced footage would seem to support the idea that Geoff Hurst's second goal in the final did not cross the line and, as his third goal was scored as a pitch invasion was in progress, many regard the result as a controversial example of home advantage.
What about the changing of venue for the semifinal game between Portugal and England from Goodison Park to Wembley Stadium to better suit the home team with 100.000 instead of 30.000 home supporters rabbidly cheering? Would they have done that for any other team other than the home team? Who could possibly favour from this other than England?
And what about arranging for the referee of a game against one opponent to be from the same country as a team that was playing under an English referee in that same round; predictably, each referee tanked the South American visitor with reckless abandon
In the Quarter-Finals England's game was officiated by a German referee while Germany's game was officiated by an English one and Germany won 4-0.
In Group 1 as England had an Hungarian referee it was curious that an English and Welsh referees oficiated Hungary's games in Group 3
In the final England Vs Germany was officiated by Swiss Gottfried Dienst and guess who oficiated Switzerland's 1st game in Group 2? A referee from Scottland.
In fact this World Cup held in England had no less than 6 referees from the United Kingdom:
And that son of a bitch Dagnall even got to officiate 2 games including Brasil 1 - 3 Hungary.
And what about the French referee Pierre Schwinte who officiated Portugal Vs England Semi-Final? This is the same Schwinte who refereed:
England 3 - 1 Austria in 1962
England 1 - 0 Hungary in 1965
Since the 1966 World Cup England has NEVER beaten Portugal in an official game, not once.
In fact, in their last 3 meaningfull games (2004, 2000, 1986) Portugal has won them all whenever they've met England in a major tournament.
In 11 games since 1966 only twice (1969 and 199 has England ever beaten Portugal and both were in meaningless friendlies.
The full list:
June 24th 2004 (Euro 2004): Portugal 2 - 2 England.
February 18th 2004 (Friendly): Portugal 1 - 1 England.
September 7th 2002 (Friendly): Portugal 1 - 1 England.
June 12th 2000 (Euro 2000): Portugal 3 - 2 England.
April 22nd 1998 (Friendly): Portugal 0 - 3 England.
December 13th 1995 (Friendly): Portugal 1 - 1 England.
June 3rd 1986 (1986 World Cup): Portugal 1 - 0 England.
November 19th 1975 (Euro 76 Qualifier): Portugal 1 - 1 England.
November 20th 1974 (Euro 76 Qualifier): Portugal 0 - 0 England.
April 3rd 1974 (Friendly): Portugal 0 - 0 England.
December 10th 1969 (Friendly): Portugal 0 - 1 England.
July 26th 1966 (1966 World Cup): Portugal 1 - 2 England.
Let's get these bastards out of the World Cup this Saturday without delay.
Personally, like I said to some friends at the pub yesterday (much to their disgust, in general), if Portugal loses, I´ll be cheerin´ for England to take this Cup home.
And it adds just that little bit of pride to my joy the fact that he is my team?s (Sporting Lisbon) keeper.
Without a shadow of hypocrisy, my heartfelt "congratulations" to England, even one man down (how stupid is Rooney...) they could have won this one...we didn?t play as well as we could have and come penalties time..well... anyone?s a fair winner.
Portugal?s objective coming in to this World Cup was to reach the quarter finals, anything else is a bonus, I honestly don?t care too much about what we can do next...
But if we meet Brazil in the semis and beat them...OH MY GOD.
Today, the portuguese players and the portuguese people are already Champions.
Ricardo ?s o nosso her?i, Portugal est? em d?vida contigo! ?S GRANDE!!!
Where do we go, nobody knows
Don't ever say you're on your way down, when..
God gave you style and gave you grace
And put a smile upon your face
and
Oh it's such a perfect day,
I'm glad I spent it with you.
Oh such a perfect day,
You just keep me hanging on,
You just keep me hanging on.
You're going to reap just what you sow,
You're going to reap just what you sow,
You're going to reap just what you sow,
You're going to reap just what you sow...
I´m not a religious man, but if God exists, I think he decided to give me my birthday gifts a little over a week late. Not only did we win, but to complete a perfect picture, Brazil are out! And yesterday, I got the promotion I fought for for the last 3 years...
Life is beautiful and now I believe in treasures at the end of the rainbow, in elves and fairies, and heck...maybe we can win this one!
Honestly, I don´t care, I´ll suffer just as much in the next game as I did since this began, but we´ve gotten a lot more than we hoped for already, our boys will be received as heroes whatever happens next.
