    Clubbing in Reykjavik

I'm heading out for Iceland for a couple of weeks and I am wondering if anyone knows of any decents bars/clubs for non-cheese music, or of any good nights? Would also appreciate any siteseeing or bar advice. Thanks for the help in advance.

When are you coming over? The clubscene here is very poor. There is once a month a decent clubnight at a club called Nasa, which is by the way the only club here. There are tons of bars but I dont know any of them, but I think Thorvaldsen bar is the busiest. It´s next door to Nasa. The city center is small and all the good bars are there.

I'm heading over at the end of this week for about 10 days. Thanks for the suggestions, any other places I should hit for a drink or two.

By the way, is Gullfoss worth seeing, I think we'll rent a car and see a few spots outside of the city. If you know of any other good nature sites I would love to know. Thanks again for your help.

Gullfoss is worth seeing, if you go there you should also check Geysir which is a short distance from there.

Don´t forget to visit the Blue Lagoon. You might also want to see thingvellir, where you can see the meeting point of the european and the american plates.

You are just missing Luke Slater. He is playing here tomorrow. Other bars you should check are Vegamot (Nick Warren played there for his chillier Global Underground CD), Kaffibarinn (Damon Alban from the Gorillaz is a co-owner or at least was) and Sirkus.

Yeah definitely. I am a Bjork fan but I just wanted to go because I am giving this trip as a surprise to the girlfriend and it is a perfect mix of what she likes and what I like. She likes the countryside and nature and I am more of a city person, but I wanted to see something unlike New York and London. From what everyone has told me the place is clean and beautiful. I just am tired of hitting the same old tourist destinations, and I was tired of cities in which there are a million+ people. Iceland has a total of 300,000 living in it, way less than my hometown of Boston.

                              Skahound,

The price really is the rub. Everything is expensive, beers are around $10, entrees at restaurants are all over $30, and hotels can be quite steep. But if you go in the winter or fall prices aren't that bad. The weather is actually not as cold as the northeast in the winter and is much better than a New York winter (Iceland is in a warm jetstream) and you can get decent hotel rooms for around $100. My friends said this was also the best time to go because there are fewer Americans but the Icelanders still go out and party. Plane tickets during that season can be around $400. You are allowed to bring in alcohol to the country, so if you wanted to pre-game before going out you can save some money. But to go when I am going, and the summer, plane tickets can cost $600 and even average hotel rooms are around $200 a night. But smart people can always find ways to be economical, like staying away from restuarants for some meals and finding buffets for others. And you can't put a price on seeing quality, undisturbed nature.
