    New Orleans

I'm applying for a job at Tulane university in New Orleans which I may actually get. Does anyone know what kind of state the city is in post Katrina. I went there on holiday a few years ago and really liked it. What kind of reputation does Tulane have as a uni?

ps. the first person to say its in louisiana deserves a slap

PM member code11 for details on New Orleans. He was there recently for a wedding and can give you some insight. Tulane as far as I know is a very respected institution. I think member clintlove graduated from there within the last year or two. As for what kind of state N.O. is in, all I have to go by is the news and if you believe them, then the city is a wreck from which it will never recover.

i was under the impression that the Ghetto type places were still fucked and that there was a lot of derelict buildings that uninsured people have no reason to go back to. However, the better areas would have been insured and would be getting back to normal by now.......

we hear nothing about New Orleans a few weeks after the hurricane

Tulane's very well respectedf and an excellent school.... the city is still a mess with less than half the population it once had.

what field do you study/work in?

Whole sections of Tulane Uni were closed all last year - and lots of students/interns etc etc were shipped off to other universities. I know it reopened early on - but I think it is still affected failry heavily.
However I also think it depends of what department/college etc

Its gonna be REALLY humid and sticky compared to Warwick tho!!!!!!!!

My brother (JetaTek on here) graduated Tulane in December '04. It is an excellent school (up there with Vanderbilt, Rice and the like), but with the current state of the city I'm not sure the experience would be the quite same.

                +1 for Tulane
-1 for current state of New Orleans

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

                    Re: New Orleans

i just got back from new orleans a couple weeks ago... it was fine as long as you stay in the downtown area or around metarie. canal street is rather torn up and of course there is still a lot of mess anywhere you go in new roleans, but we're used to that anyhow. :P. outside of downtown, the city is still really fucked up... whatever your impression is from the news, multiply it by 10. the worst areas i saw were around the chalmette area off the 610 hwy. there are whole subdivisions that are still vacant and mold-ridden, with nobody living there at all... not even people walking around... just vacant. there are home depots and sam's clubs that are torn the fuck up. there are tons of cars flipped over and abandoned randomly throughout the city from the flood carrying them all over the place.

it is going to take them YEARS to get new orleans back to where it was before katrina. i think, though, that you could find an area in new orleans that isn't too bad. the garden district didn't get hit too hard and that is a very nice area to live. get with a realtor and they should be able to tell you where to look.
Should I fuck you at that not until the ass, inject then tremendously hard bumschen and to the termination in the eyes yes?

Guys New Orleans is doing fine. I'm down there quite often and besides some political shit, the city is back to normal. There's still some construction and clean up happening, but that will be going on for a while. The population is not as great as is was before the storm, but hell that actually makes it better. I'd say take the job.
