        Re: My Austrailian Vacation

I really want to get to Australia some day! It just looks so damn beautiful and every Ausie I've met is super friendly with a wicked sence of humor!
There's some cocks for sure, but generally speaking we're very "people friendly" ...anyone around the tourism industry is very conscious that it's essential to our economy.

my question is: where r the kangaroo, koala, wombat pictures? ..i know a lot of people that have been down there and didnt get to see the marsupials...
This depends on what you want to see, to be honest. If you want to see everything in one day, my suggstion would be to go to Taronga Zoo in Sydney. It's super-prime real estate right on the north side of the harbour with some of the best views in Sydney, a world-class zoo and is a fantastic day. The whole place is on the side of a hill, so start at the top of the hill and work your way towards the bottom ...jump on a ferry back into the city, or go off to Manly to go to the beach and grab an ice-cream.

However, if you want to see Australian wildlife in its natural environment and you've got some time then there's no better place than Kangaroo Island - which is about 2 hours by car from Adelaide, then 1 hour by boat. I spent a week here earlier this year and it's incredible! It's a largely closed eco-system so there's wildlife everywhere and it has spectacular scenery throughout. You can do day-tours, but really you'd need no less than three days. Also great if you're into walking or hiking, but not essential. (Contrary to popular belief, Aussie wildlife is not bouncing around our streets... you'd never see a koala, wombat or kangaroo anywhere near our cities!)

thursday checked out king cross and then oxford street....wasnt impressed at all with that....
The Cross is where some of the better clubs are tucked away, but you have to get past the seedy strip joints first. Kings Cross was really in its heyday in the 70's and 80's I think, but I was too young then. Oxford St is really the gay centre of Sydney, and is a very long street with heaps of quality stuff just one block back from the main section. For the most part, we're quite proud of our gay scene and it's every bit as world class as San Francisco's. Musically it's a waste-land of cheese and commercial disgrace, but highlights are the Mardi Gras parade in March each year and the killer clothing stores that line Oxford St - plus the energy on a Fri/Sat/Sun night is palpable.

Melbourne is absolutely unreal as well... quite different to Sydney, but it's beautiful and the people are really well dressed. I could move to Melbourne today actually!

        Absolute must-dos as well:

        * Ayers Rock (centre of Australia)
        * Kakadu (northern part of Australia)
        * Great Barrier Reef (north from Surfer's Paradise, on the east coast)
        * Tasmania (south east of the mainland)

Only thing is, it's a BIG country so you'll just need to stay longer!

You can see why there's so many backpackers who come here for a month, and stay as long as they possibly can! We wouldn't want it any other way.

            Then don't.

Or alternatively go and drink beer with some of the best backdrops imaginable... we have plenty of outdoor places to grab a lager!

(PS: Fosters is actually our joke on the world... no Australian drinks Fosters! Actually, most of the time I'm drinking either Peroni, Corona, Heineken, Asahi or Crown... and the only one of those that's Australian is Crown. Yikes!)

                Re: My Austrailian Vacation

we get some aussie micro brews at the bar round me. amazing stuff. thinner than the american and euro brews but holy fuck they are good.

                different note.

the scenery is like puerto rico. down there you just feel different. relaxed, peaceful, never in a bad mood. we always go into el junque (the national rainforest outside san juan) and there are points where you just need to sit down, take out the mini bong, and chill for awhile. not to mention the carribean beaches which IMHO are the most beautiful on the planet. salt water you can open your eyes in and its actually clearer than a professionally maintia swimming pool. i feel ya.

Yup, they're all legit Australian beers and drunk in massive quantites by our populous. Carlton Draught is a nice (cheap) thrown-down as well.

When averaging cities, do you use an abacus?
