Intel goes in for the kill

Processor Clock Speed / FSB Cache Launch Date Price @ Launch

    PPXE965 3.73GHz / 1066MHz 2x2MB Q2'06 $999 (04/30)

    PPXE955 3.46GHz / 1066MHz 2z2MB Now $999 (now)

    PPXE840 3.20GHz / 1066MHz 2x1MB Now $999 (now)

    ConroeE6700 2.67GHz / 1066MHz 4MB Q3'06 $530 (???)

    ConroeE6600 2.40GHz / 1066MHz 4MB Q3'06 $316 (???) That's all me.

    ConroeE6400 2.13GHz / 1066MHz 2MB Q3'06 $241 (???)

    ConroeE6300 1.86GHz / 1066MHz2MB Q3'06 $209 (???)

    Pentium D 960 3.6GHz / 800MHz 2x2MB Q2'06 $530 (04/30)

    Pentium D950 3.4GHz / 800MHz2x2MB Now $637 (now)

    Pentium D940 3.2GHz / 800MHz 2x2MB Now $423 (now)

    Pentium D930 3.0GHz / 800MHz 2x2MB Now $316 (now)

    Pentium D920 (no VT) 3.0GHz / 800MHz 2x2MB Now $178 (???)

    Pentium D920 2.8MHz / 800MHz 2x2MB Q3'06 $241 (now)

Taking into account the huge performance gap and price difference between Core 2 Duo and AM2, it's safe to say that Intel is back on top.

The more the better as far as I'm concerned. The less FSB access the better.

Can you imagine what those retards at Intel would do if they woke up and move the memory controller onto the fucking damn processor unit? Morons.
I'm quite happy with my Opty 165. Woo! C'mon quad cores.

Yeah, that's the only part about them that I don't like. The whole reason they have so much L2 cache is to minimize trips across the FSB, but what if they had an integrated memory controller AND 4 megs of L2 cache. That bitch would fucking smoke.

i'm gonna wait for a response from AMD.
i guess they are going to beat Intel on every test once again, even with lower clock freq and less cache

Don't count on that...from what I hear, AMD is the one that is going to start cranking up the clock speed. With AM2s architectural shortcomings, that is the only way they are going to stay competitive.

Shortcomings? What are you talking about dude? They're still at 90nm, the 65s will be out in December, then comes the quad cores that will freakin' scream.

I'm not talking about then, I'm talking about now. I'll let Anand explain.

I've read all of the reviews on Anand. The main reasons for the release of AM2 were not what was expected and assumed by the majority but that's what happens when people assume things. This was a new release to start taking shape and consideration of new technologies to come out. Be patient and then you'll see exactly what AMD's plan was.
