how come they didnt recognize their "own" daughter when they were taking care of here, i mean, its your daughter after all, i think my mom would recognize me even if i die in a plane crash, and the only things left from me were my hands.

Facial disfigurement. Her head was more than likely covered in bandages and they also looked very similar.

Imagine some other family burying your child etc. It's one fucked up story.

ID tags were supposedly mixed up. They probably wouldn't check DNA in these type of circumstances unless both had died immediately and were totally unrecognisable.
