      Re: lol, gee.... whadya know?

Apparently they have some of the best care in the country, primarily because all of the medical records are digitized so a vet can go to any VA hospital in the country and the have his entire medical history available with a few keystrokes.

That doesn't mean the whole sha-bang gets top marks. Gulf War Syndrome as a prime example, not the mention Agent Orange, and so on. I would add the psychological issue alluded to in my last post.

I agree these guys deserve the best, we owe them that.

What ever happened to Vets deserving the best? Oh yeah, that was just bullshit lip service, they're good at that.

Can they even list reasons that go beyond freedom, or that we are the "greatest" country in the world (and they've never left)

Yeah, but god (that I don't believe in) forbid something happen, and thinking of the majority of poor families who have sons in Iraq, what options are there going to be later in life if one had no arms due to a situation like this? This guy is gonna have very few options later in life if there isn't a friend or family member who can help them get to and from the VA or whatever assisted living place the VA would actually fully pay for...

mike, if ya wanna learn about the VA's i think its from todays NY Times. or dailynews. there was a whole write up on it. interesting what they do now. they have these remote monitors that hook up to ppl's homes and assissted linving centers where essentially the docs and nurses at the VA can act as if they were right there. from automated IV and prescriptions to instant voice chat. was a cool article.

But you still got to check them out in their sailor's uniforms, didn't you?

I dunnno.... Personally, I agree with you, but still hold out that you shouldn't apply your own values to other people. Certainly many of who you'd describe would do the same to you, which would not be appreciated, right?

The military is a good move for some people, beyond what it represents philosophically. For financial reasons, or social reasons such as getting off the street, it does present a lot of people with the oppertunity to "make something of themselves," and a shot at a better future (sometime much worse unfortunately)

Once you're in it, you might as well make the best of it, be proud of what you're doing, even if it is in a preverse war based on lies. The job of a soldier is not to question, but to do.
