You can always check IMDB for user comments if this didn't already add up. -

Re: Cache
Life seems perfect for Georges (Daniel Auteuil) and Anne (Juliette Binoche), a bourgeois Parisian couple who live in a comfortable home with their adolescent son, Pierrot (Lester Makedonsky). But when an anonymous videotape turns up on their doorstep, showing their house under surveillance from across the street, their calm life begins to spiral out of control. Subsequent videotapes arrive, accompanied by mysterious drawings, and gradually Georges becomes convinced that he's being tormented by a figure from his past. But when he confronts him, the man assures Georges he is innocent. A growing sense of guilt begins to rise in Georges as he recalls his less-than-angelic childhood, yet for some reason he's unable to be completely honest with Anne. Soon, their happy home is an emotional battleground, leading to a climax that is breathtaking in its ferocity and ambiguousness.
Though Haneke's film works first and foremost as an insidious thriller, it is also a powerful commentary on the urban paranoia and racism that continue to permeate modern society. Without using a score, and keeping his camera detached and static, Haneke nonetheless establishes a nearly unbearable level of tension. Not for the squeamish, Hidden remains a work of menacing brilliance, and was the winner of the Best Director award at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.Comment

Re: Cache
If I am a cinema-goer, I expect to sit down and be shown something that is (somewhat) understandable without stretching my imagination and making far-fetched inferrence. The things that Cache implies at, are just way too tenous.
The whole social commentary aspect of it is firstly too "implied" and secondly, doesn't have a direct link to the "plot" in the film. It is inferred that the director is talking about some ugly past and the "mishandling/treatment" of the poor, because the fella who slashed his own throat is from that social demographic and he lives in that particular area. Who gives a flying fuck.
I even read a review which postulated that it's the director himself who "videoed" the house.
The actors did a great job on the film. The domestic scenes, the breakdown of the parents' relationship, even the dinner conversations with their friends were all spot on. And as a thriller, yes it succeds to some extent in creating that tension, but it's "plot" and anything beyond that is all arty farty crap.
IMO, of course
I'd take Capote and History of Violence of this anytime.

Re: Cache
So you're saying that without knowing what the director intended, you're suppose to go into the cinema and make all those inference?

Also having read about it afterwards, it certainly makes more sense.Comment
