        Re:: Why is LA so...well....LA

        I grew up back east and once was just another transient entering into the world of LA, but it honestly was an easy fit. You just have to be nice, if its in your nature to be nice, but don't be fake. It is true that people here are a lot more laid back and care-free, if you are too. If you aren't, then forget it. Its not that they are or aren't pretentious, its just they don't tolerate drama or crap. I found that quick. Gigs were easy, once I met the right people and just was myself with them and didn't try to blow dj smoke up their ass, remember it is business and sales.

        In the words of Doo Doo Brown, be like a shoe... and just do it. You'll see it'll come easy once you get over the hump of the few a-holes you may run into who are pretentious and need to go back to where they came from.

          You see thats just the thing. We have hooked up almost everybody who has come to our town and asked if they could play. On top of that we have put most of these people up, cooked them dinner, and spent many a late night having fun. I find I get the same great care from most of the other places I have traveled in the world, but never in LA. And as I said before its sad because they are our neibor in California. Some of these same djs who have come here I have even offered to come and play for free just to visit with some firends in LA and still nothing. So go figure. Maybe they just think I suck!?!

            LA is a very stuck up city. not as stuck up as Paris (and most of France for that matter) though

              I've found this all to be almost completely the opposite from what you are saying. I found people here are full of drama and full of crap and full of themselves. I am the most laid back easy going genuinely nice person, and I found the people here who are DJ's to be completely the oppostite; self serving cliqueish ass holes..

              Just my two cents

                DJ's weren't born in a day, and finding gigs now is hard.....do the right thing, start producing while dj'ing on the side....

                  yeah, but isn't that what being a DJ is all about?

                    Like I said, I'm not having a hard time finding gigs at all, only in LA.
                    Also, I am producing music, but thanks for the advice.

                      Wow, the irony is just delicious.

                      Your post in and of itself is full of drama and full of crap and full of itself ("I am the most laid back easy going genuinely nice person"). It really does fit in with what Socal7 was saying.
