    DJing looping..

This is right up your alley jenks...

i sometimes loop track intros either on serato's main interface or using the looping on my cdjs... ill usually go 4 beats. the problem im having is that no matter how perfect the loop is, once i release it, it becomes offbeat. ive tried looping 8 beats and still get te same result.

so whats the best way to loop
4, 8 ,16 beats ... and is there a better way ie: start on a third beat, etc...

practice does make perfect. try tapping you finger on your cdj to the beat as you are working on your looping, and then it shall help you hit the buttons a bit better. it helped me out.

hey Jenks, how do you like that PVDJ? I was thinking of getting the RedSouns Soundbite II or whatever it's called... they are essentially the same thing

Picked it up on ebay for a little over a hundred. Love it.

Takes some practice to work it into your sets. It's not perfect, especially with the music i play, a lot of the weirdo stuff. But really, i never try to loop really indepth parts, or the meat of the record. Grabbing ending loops, breakdown loops, or just simple loops in general is a piece of cake.

When you start thinking about all the stuff you are able to do with it, like when coupled with a Xone it's really impressive, as you can add the filter to your loop and drop it over top of what's already playing and sort of remix the track on the fly. Looping with a cdj200 or djm with fx, or an external fx machine takes the whole remixing thing a step further, as you can add tricked out loops your sound (which tbh, i have zero interest in, but it's fun to play with.) At some point, all the editing and tricks you add to a mix just take away from it imo (ala james zabiela.) Let the record do the talking. Less is more in most cases.

It's really nice for just extending records, which is all i use it for- longer mixes.

You assign it to an empty channel on your mixer, so it basically acts as another turntable of sorts. In theory, you could mix a set with one turntable and a mixer if you wanted to.

            For $100...it's a steal.

And regarding looping with the pioneer cd players...they have 1000s at my weekly, and i think the looping thing sucks. I don't have the time or patience to fuck with in and out points.

thank you for the info there... makes me all the more wanting of that device! I always worry that when I get a new toy, I won't know what to do with it or use it to its full potential... as in I have an EFX 500 just sitting here barely in use, but perhaps because I have not found an easy way to hook up to my xone...
