Digital Rebel XT Experiments - Vol 1. - Caution 56K

    GREAT FALLS - MD

Experimenting with Shutter Speeds, tried to catch the drops of water as opposed to a flowing stream. Of course slow shutter speeds meant darker picts and I was afraid to bump up the ISO for fear of granulating the image... but here it is none-the-less

The Digital Rebel XT allows you to take black and white photos in tones of Purple, Green, Blue (and a few others), This is an example of the green tone.

Used the shitty stock lens which came with the camera, 18 - 55MM. Will be dropping another packet on the 17 - 85MM IS Series lens.

Photos were taken at Great Falls, MD

      PS: The Lock ?

Nice pics K, but a little remark tho: you have to work a little on the composition of your pics (yeah, being a bit of a bitch now, but still).

Great Camera. I've done a lot of research personally and continue to read up on it and it's the best camera in the price range out there. A close competitor is the Nikon D50 (in terms of price) but its a 6 MP camera and the DigicII Processor that the Rebel XT and Larger Cousin EOS30D use is way superior, both in terms of picture quality and the fact that both the EOS and RebelXT are 8.2 MP cameras. I've read that the Nikon D70 is potentially a close competitor but I for one am a Canon Fan (having had the G5 before this one).

The cheapest I found the RebelXT was at Newegg.com / ZipZoomFly.com which was about $660 (after the $100 rebate). I got mine at Circuit City for $750 because I got 17 months 0% interest. Be sure to get a mondo CF Card - I got the 2 Gig CF-II card.

The only downside of the camera is that IF you're NOT ready to dabble with purchasing an even more expensive lense, SLRs are an expensive Point and Shoot option. If you buy the camera at the $600-$700 price range, chances are you'll get the shitty 18 - 55MM lens which sucks. I've had several pictures in which a person facing me with the sun to their right had the right half of their face extremely brightly lit and the shadows were extremely dark. It could also be that I have to play around with White Balancing but I never had that problem in the G5. Could it be the lens has shitty light filtering ? Possibly. I WILL get the better 17 - 85MM lens which also comes with Image Stabilization (something the cheaper lens lacks) but this lens will run me a cool $600. So BE PREPARED to spend a LOT with SLRs.

The other thing is the learning curve. Personally, I dont like using the AUTO mode anymore, I LOVE messing with the depths of GREY / Colors in Manual mode. So if you dont have the patience to learn, SLR's can be a kick in the rear.

In Belgicum, a composition is what allows a canal to go up and down hills.

                    ...

                    ...

                    ...

                    Kiddin' bro!

Composition is the way you order the elements you're photographing in the picture. I'll give you an example with the duck pic. The void space is behind the duck and the duck is watching to the right lower corner. The pic would look better (balanced) if the duck would be in the top right corner and the void in the lower right. Dunno if I'm making sense...

Anyway, here's a link with some good tips 'n' basic principles: http://digital-photography-school.co...position-tips/

actually with that Duck Pict, the direction she was swimming, I wouldn't have caught the reflection of the sky in the ripples behind because the shade of the trees was in the front of the duck.

I know what composition meant, I wanted to know which pict specifically you were talking about, should've rephrased my Q

Ok then, here's another tip for you: when photographing wide angle (last pic), put your wiener back in your pants before taking the pic (lower right corner)
